Haven't watched any of these films, but this batch is so much more enticing than the first. Now I'm really glad I bit the bullet with the May bundle.

Investing in the bundles kind of feels like subscribing to those magazines back in the day that would include a CD/video. Love the slipcover artwork for all of them, and I am again indifferent to the standard artwork. Funny that.

Disappointing that they are opting for lossy audio though.

Haven't heard of any of them but considering getting the whole batch despite conservative purchasing at the moment. Love that pretty much all of them are first time releases in the Western market.

Just received three of the first wave. Awaiting the final two. Gorgeous looking sets, and great news is, the ratings logos are stickers on the shrinkwrap!!

Awesome, awesome news!

I hope that will be the standard operating procedure going forward.

I also hate that they're adding the "This content is X in impact" to pre-1988 (?) rated material to the logos instead of just leaving the logos clean on the cover like they used to.

Is it safe to assume that the ratings are printed on the actual cases though? That would particularly annoy me as the consumer advice for Monster and Wrong Number are technically incorrect, and incorrect markings really bothers me as it is akin to a glaring typo.

It would be nice if they omitted the rating from the standard cases at least for the batch that includes the slipcase.

It's also weird that they've sent them out separately. Perhaps they needed time to revise the grading issue with The War of the Worlds? (we can only hope!)

I still haven't got a dispatch email or a tracking number for my bundle. I'm pretty pissed that I was the fifth person to order and they've sent nothing yet. Just my luck lately.

No, there are no cert logos printed absolutely anywhere on the packages. The only cert logos are stickers on the shrinkwrap.

Unsure why it's such a huge issue. Movies are constantly re-certified for new releases. The certification logo - which is literally only there to inform the consumer who is buying the product of the contents - needs to represent modern views. It's not meant to be a historical document.

No, these are review copies sent to media. They are, seemingly, only providing media with these three titles. I'll be purchasing the other two separately.

Is the back cover accurate, is there lossless audio?

Not sure if it'll help, but I never got a confirmation email from Via Vision either, I did receive the email from Australia Post today with the tracking info though that they sent from Via Vision, maybe it's the same in your case?

Thanks. Nothing from AusPost for me. Usually when a parcel is lodged with my email address, it shows up in my AusPost account. Nothing there yet...

They look really nice! Probably the best I've seen from a local label.

Sorry, Wrong Number and I Married a Monster from Outer Space are PG, with "Mild themes, mild violence", while Waterloo, a war film, is rated G with "The content is very mild"!

Just for laughs, I looked up the "Parents Guide" page for Waterloo at the IMDb. Under the "Violence & Gore" section, it says:

"The second half of the film is a largely uninterrupted battle scene with a few instances of gore. However, the violence is at times shocking. The last four minutes of the film are a series of shots of a character riding though a massive field of dead."

It looks like the Aussies are as screwed up about movie ratings as we Americans!

Strange no mention of these latest batch of titles on the front page. These titles would get more mileage , I’m sure if posted there.

Watched the movie last night and have to agree this is a bizarre rating. The battle scene isn’t gory or gruesom (there’s hardly any blood and no impact violence), but it IS intense!!

I don’t think it deserves a hard rating, but at least a PG, surely.

I had a look at world certification — seems it has a G both here and in the US and has a U in the UK. My guess is, it’s been given this because of its “historical” nature. But who knows?

Initial thoughts:

WATERLOO

Watched this last evening. An enjoyable movie, the battle sequence at the end is SPECTACULAR, even if the lead-up is a bit of a drag.

Picture is gorgeous — it’s a fantastic, incredibly filmic transfer I couldn’t help feel that color timing was a little off though. Almost as if it wasn’t graded properly — almost has that pre-white balanced look. Some scenes even look hand colored while a majority of scenes seem a little too blue. I don’t know — I’ve never seen this before, so most likely it’s faithful to the original color palette. Something just seemed the slightest bit off to me.
The person I watched it with also mentioned they thought the color “looked weird” — and this is someone who would not normally notice something like that.

Sound mix is amazing! The 5.1 is immersive as any modern day war film. Easily the best part of the movie.

I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE

Fun, schlocky 50s sci-fi. Really enjoyed this one!

Again, transfer is beautifully clear and filmic. Very nice level of grain. HOWEVER, it’s also INCREDIBLY dirty. Scratches, hairs, tears, warps and burns are evident on almost every single frame from beginning to end — ranging from moderate to quite severe. Mostly stuff that I imagine would be a “routine” clean-up job. And I’m unsure I’ve seen a high-profile Blu-ray remaster of a classic film look so dirty. I think this will bother some — however, due to the schlocky nature of the title, it adds a great atmosphere to the film and really gives it that grungy B-movie look — which I think works very well. Again, image is beautifully clear but as far as source clean up it looks like there’s been none. Some will love it, some won’t.

SORRY, WRONG NUMBER

Ok, quick skim through of this, will watch the full film tomorrow.

Incredibly mediocre, near awful transfer. DNR’d to absolute hell. Crush galore. Contrast is terrible — blacks are creamy. This one’s an enormous disappointment.

Unfortunately, I’m seeing very little “Premium” about these releases so far.

The extra on Waterloo is about 40 minutes long. I Married... only has a couple of trailers and a commentary. Haven’t had a look at Sorry...’s features just yet.
