LOL @ this feeling like a low budget Netflix movie. I disagree strongly.
It was finished natively at 4K.

So, no, not a "Blu-ray in disguise"

But but but....I thought that only 4K finishes counted as "TROO FORKAY" and that HDR was just fakery. Weird.

It would just be easier if people accepted UHD is an enhancement format/standard. That will get their mindsets straight.

Also, the fake HDR nonsense. People get to focused on the high part, which just means a profile is capable of high dynamic range, not that said range should all be utilised. There for, the only thing that qualifies a films HDR grade to be true HDR is the fact it's luminosity is dynamic.

I didn't mean "fake" in the Vincent Teoh clickbait sense, "fake" in the sense that 'true cinephiles' turn their nose up at it because it's just added after the fact, being a wheeze to get people to buy a new TV. We get less of those opinions on here now, but every now and then someone will pipe up. To some folks 4K is about resolution, and resolution only, we also get less of those folks on here but they're still out there. And for them this B&T disc should be perfick.

Oh what a shocker. Detail yields are minimal past 1080p at most viewing distances, cinema or home.

It's like we haven't known for year's colour, luminosity and, picture processing are the only real areas meaningful improvement left.

4K SDR can look great as well but once you are used to HDR, it can be challenging to go back to SDR but it's okay if it's an one off.

No I mean't without HDR it's a Blu-ray in disguise. I am sure it's an upgrade over the BD since it's native 4K. BD's look pretty good upscaled to 4K so I am not sure how much of a difference will be noticed between the UK UHD and BD. HDR really makes UHD's shine over BD's.

If you have an OLED or QLED SDR BD looks really good without HDR. On some LED sets it's more noticeable without HDR. The HDR really gives the blacks and the colors a boost. It really depends on the TV you are using and if it's calibrated or not.

All I see in your post is ignorance and misinformation...

There are several 4K SDR transfers that handily beat their Blu-ray counterparts, it’s not even an incremental upgrade but a massive upgrade - see Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Bad Santa 2.

You do you, but 4K SDR is not Blu-ray in disguise, not even close.

I forgot about Brawl In Cell Block 99, I had the BD and upgraded to the UHD that definitely looked better than the Blu. I see your point but I should have worded it better instead of Blu-ray in disguise. Ignorance though is a little harsh. Misinformed is much more appropriate.

Mine arrived from Zavvi yesterday, (which they shipped a week ago) only a day after release. Wasn't expecting that. Anyway I rewatched Excellent Adventure today and I'll watch Bogus Journey tomorrow and then the UHD on Saturday.

I have Excellent Adventure on UHD the UK steelbook and have the UHD for Face The Music coming. Now all we need is a physical UHD of Bogus Journey. I hope it happens as Bogus Journey is still my favorite Bill and Ted movie. There is a 4K version of Bogus Journey on iTunes Movies but to me it doesn't look any better than the BD.

I had the physical release of the first part and the digital release as well. Both looked almost identical. So I sold the physical. Part 2 4K digital looks okay and I doubt if it will ever get a proper physical 4K release of it.

that's the same nonsense people said about 1080P oh you need at least an 80" screen seen from 4' away to notice the detail difference from SD

wide gamut can be very nice, although lots of scenes don't use it, but for susnets, fall foliage, tropical waters, etc. it's very nice to have

properly done HDR for scenes that have wide dynamic range can be a very, very nice thing to have too (often it's done in fake or distracting ways though)

I received it from Zavvi yesterday in the mail... quite fast to the US for once lately.

It's interesting that the back cover and the 4K disc label both do list "HDR", if there is indeed none on the actual disc. I haven't had time to check it as of yet.

Got my copy from Zavvi. I haven't checked it out yet but I am definitely stoked to have it on UHD finally.

I think Bogus Journey will probably make it to UHD at some point. It's sadly the only Bill and Ted movie not on UHD. They could do a pretty awesome UHD steelbook for it if they wanted to. I love the theatrical poster art. I think though the odds are better of it really happening if it comes out this year than later. The third movie is still sort of fresh.

Got my Zavvi order today. I'll watch it tomorrow. Already seen the movie several times and while it's not great, I think it's a perfectly acceptable 3rd movie. It almost feels like a bookend or epilogue to the other movies. It doesn't need to exist but it doesn't ruin the first two either.

I do wish they would have went with the original ending but I still think it turned out about as good as I could have hoped for.

It'll be interesting to see how the UHD compares to the digital 4K.

Original Ending:
[Show spoiler]Bill & Ted fail to write the song that saves the world and as they sit on a coach contemplating everything, they hear music coming from the bedroom. They open the door to see their young daughters (originally not in the movie and these would be much younger versions) playing music together. They look at each other and the movie ends. That would have brought a tear to my eye...

Nah. Too anticlimactic.
