Just because you have a bunch of speakers doesn't mean you want them filled. I watch tons of mono movies and I have a 9.1.6...it just means I'm prepared for ATMOS content as well. Plus, like it or not, this board is a minority compared to joe public who actually want something more than the original mix and want something updated if they're going to double and triple dip on releases.

I've got ATMOS setup at home, but couple of years ago I noticed that in many of my favourite movies, the original audio track feels more "comprehensive" or "whole", while many of the expanded remasters often just felt weird.

In some cases where original mono/stereo track was expanded to 5.1 (or higher) I often noticed that sound effects were "bleeding", meaning that they were causing nasty echoes on other surround channels, or I just felt something was "wrong", for the lack of better word (I am no audio professional).
One of the cases would be Near Dark on optimum blu-ray, the 5.1 sound just feels like an abomination compared to the original 2.0 track (but so is the rest of the disk with it's black crush and what not)

The further back you go the more you realise how awful some of those older 5.1 upmixes are on whatever movie, especially from Anchor Bay and the like.

If you look at my 3700+ collection, there's a ton of older movies with mono and stereo tracks and such, and in no way do I want to start sending sounds where they aren't supposed to be. On the flip side, I do like to have the expanded or remixed audio to experiment and see what it's like. On occasion I do like some tracks better than the original (ie; Blade Runner's ATMOS which you don't like and LOTR).

I think it’s the best De Palma film released in 4K. Scarface and Mission: Impossible are also great.

My Amazon pre-order just notified me of an early proposed delivery date of October 12 on this title. Then again, it's Amazon. A pre-order. Promise much, and fail. I'll probably be canceling my Amazon pre-order on October 19, and grabbing it off the shelf at my local Best Buy on release day, as usual.

got the same update. i find myself doing this exact thing with new releases lately… The Thing & Shawshank were the most recent examples

I ended up ordering that and Inglorious Basterds from Gruv with their coupon because Amazon has been so slow and unreliable lately. Plus saved like 7 bucks

I think I've literally done this over 30 times in the last two years. I remember doing it all the way back starting in 2019, with Ad Astra 4k, Underwater, Annabelle Comes Home, Lock Up 4k, Backdraft 4k, The Shining 4k, Pet Sematary 4k, Black Hawk Down 4k, 1917 4k, Bloodshot 4k, Gemini Man 4k, Full Metal Jacket 4k, Anna 4k, Overlord 4k, Rambo Last Blood 4k, Collateral 4k, War of the Worlds 4k, Phantasm white marble Sphere collection, several of the Star Wars 4k discs, and at least two dozen other titles since. It's my standard routine now. Order from Amazon. Cancel on release day (or even sooner, the minute they send me a "delayed shipping" notice). Go to Best Buy and grab one off the shelf with a minty slip. Even the weird, distinct "plastic and electronics and dirty socks" smell of Best Buy as those automatic doors swing open makes me drool for new disc content. It's become Pavlovian. That wacky smell instantly means I'm going home with exciting new film content. Especially older films on shiny new 4k product.

I still think someone in marketing when they were doing the mock up for the box art clearly must have gotten Hernandez confused with Leguizamo's character. More than likely the person has never even seen the film.

I got shipping confirmation today for the standard edition from BB, looks like "estimated" delivery via UPS/USPS SurePost will be this Saturday although I suspect it will be Monday.
