Theaters also had a thing people did not have at home in the 50's air conditioning.

What about it? Times have changed. Can you really think of anything else there was to do at that time? Not to mention the technology of today.

Because early TV sets were dogsh-t. And there were far fewer entertainment options back then.

Theaters now have to compete with home theaters, streaming services, video games, cable channels, spectator sports, and social media.

They've already been advertising Godzilla vs Kong as part of it illegally, is what I'm saying. It's not ethical.

Sorry. I was kind of spitballing there.

I know I'm late to this but I just saw that WW1984 wlll be the first 4K HDR movie on the platform, so I can't wait to see all of these new movies the same way!

IMAX or IMAX 3D will now probably be the only reason I'd go to the theater to watch any of these movies.

This bit doesn't make any sense. By the time these movies leave Max, they're going to be old news. The exclusivity of these movies to theaters will already be compromised.

Unless WB is counting on these movies not being frontloaded, and people who missed the Max window to come in droves to the theaters in months 2 and 3.

Man I am still looking forward to seeing Dune in Dolby Cinema even though I have a pretty decent home theatre.

All of this would be fine, if I wasn't allowed to see my friends and family in person at my house or their houses to watch these movies with. I live with my mom, and she has Type-1 diabetes, so she has a poor immune system. She's even more vulnerable to the coronavirus than others I know.

Exactly. A month later they'll be all over the internet, clips will be on youtube, etc.

I know some of you are pretty upset with this news but I am overjoyed! A lot of us have been hit hard with this pandemic, losing jobs, health, etc. I am so glad Warner Brothers is taking a high road and offering it outside of theaters as well for people with health risks who just can't risk being in a theater. My father is overjoyed that these will be releasing at home. I get why some of you may be upset but think about all the people who wouldn't be able to go out and see because of the pandemic. Thank you Warner Brothers for being such amazing people! I am stoked to watch Wonder Woman in 4K HDR on HBO MAX!

What do you mean not allowed? Is someone spying on you?

Actually the average price of a ticket say in 1958, which was $.68 is almost the same ($9.01) as it is in 2020 ($9.16) when you take into account inflation according to NATO Data.

Nobody's spying on us. Mom just doesn't want to take the risk of either of us being at other peoples's houses for now. Her diabetes puts her at high risk.

Please produce a copy of the contract between WB and Legendary as far as releasing rights so we can all see where your legal expertise is coming from.

There was also a massive gulf between movies and TV in terms of writing, actors and production values for the longest. Not so much now.

You can see that in terms of which movies get wide theatrical releases. Increasingly, their either $200 million franchise blockbusters or microbudget indies, with little if any inbetween.

Not what I'm saying. Put two and two together. Legendary had a bidding war and Legendary is unaware of the film going to HBO Max. If Warner could just stream the film, there would be no bidding war, or they wouldn't have bid and instead sued. Since Legendary was unaware, that means they haven't accepted an offer and the Godzilla vs Kong release is unauthorized as of now.

The thing is, Mwynn, my local government told us to stay inside our own houses. Going to other peoples' houses is not preferred, especially in winter, where there's no indoor air circulation while an airborne virus is spreading.
