I caved in and re-ordered the Shawscope set. With coupon, it comes to 125$ CAD on wowh.ca, which is a great deal and the perfect Christmas gift from my wife haha. I still hate it's a giant set but at this point I want to read the booklet and watch the movies while i'm still on parental leave. Plus, volume 2 will match at least with this and if I really love the smaller sets, i'm sure I can sell the bigger one down the road.

Hopefully we get some unboxing video soon, i'm mostly intrigued by the book!

I'm a sucker for books/booklets. Being a kung-fu fan, would love to see pretty extensive writings on SB movies. I haven't pre-ordered, so I hope I can grab a copy when it's released.

I went through all 150 (or whatever) pages of the included book, and I didn't see the track titles listed anywhere. And having them printed on the disc themselves isn't going to do me very good if I'm actually spinning them... If anyone can give me a specific page count in the booklet where they are, I'd appreciate it.

They may increase price tho. I love some melody bits in shaolin temple, king boxer...wtf most presented in kung fu supersounds cds..not need when in luxur arrow box. In general many appear great when watch movie but indivudually not so much...

Just skimmed through a preview of the included book. It's 56 pages, and has a nice layout without lots of pictures, and original posters. It dedicates about 5 pages to the history of SB, and then covers each film with a synopsis, cast info, film notes, trivia, and occasionally a "Name That Tune" text box. There's a section after the movie part that highlights different stars from the films, and finally, there's a nice essay from James Flower called "Lip Flaps & High Kicks".

I'm still on the fence about this set. How are the actual movies? Is the story behind the Shaw Bros. studio compelling enough that someone who knows almost nothing about them might find the behind the scenes stuff and book interesting?

An absolutely fantastic selections of Shaw bros movies, they will make you a fan for life. There's a bit of everything and outside of Mighty Pekin man, they are all very good. Heroes of the east and Crippled avengers are imo the highlights of the set.

I suddenly don’t feel so good about this box set at all. And there’s really nothing I can do about it since I, perhaps foolishly, went with DiabolikDVD. I’m just going to have to hope this isn’t a mess.
