What's confusing me though is, is it the UHD that's problematic or the new included BD? There seems to be mixed signals going on between RAH's review and HDD's review.....unless I'm just misunderstanding.

Watched it last night and it looked very good. I just love 70'era films within NYC, that grit the city had back then. Mono track sounded fine, was wondering if it's the OG and not a fold down of the 5.1

I'm pretty sure that it's not a downmix either.
1) I did confirm that it's mono (the L and R channels are not identical, but very close). It would likely be stereo, if a downmix. 2) I compared the 2.0 and 5.1 tracks, at a few spots, and they definitely sounded quite a bit different to me. |

It's definitely NOT a down mix.
The 5.1 is crap. Like KL's PELHAM this seems like it's some recently created 5.1 track (I'd hesitate to even call it a "remix" per se) and it's no different than someone hitting "all channel stereo" on their AVR with dialogue coming out of every speaker. Over amplified and pretty much useless. It's too bad Paramount didn't create a 5.1 track for the movie back in the DVD era. They did a lot of those back then and many were pretty effectively done -- but DEATH WISH wasn't one of those, and sounds like it. Last edited by DMRI2006; 01-23-2023 at 03:14 PM. |

It's the 4K he has issues with- which he said doesn't look substantially better than the Blu-ray.

I'm pretty sure that Harris was complaining about the 4K not the new Blu-ray included. I haven't seen it yet (I was waiting for more reviews) so can't comment on how accurate Harris' take is.
