I understand your point and am familiar with the nonsense exclusivity they've shown in the past. However, there's something pretty different in the implication on how they are advertising this one that a few of us are picking up on. I've never seen them so heavily imply format exclusivity in previous editions.
Of course I won't be too surprised if somehow it's just this edition that's exclusive. |

However, if you want classic Walt Disney films like "Treasure Island," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "The Parent Trap," "The Love Bug," "The Black Cauldron," and "The Three Caballeros/Saludos Amigos" (two of the most famous Donald Duck feature length films) on Blu-ray, then it would be worth going through the buy at full price commitment stage and monthly member titles that you either decline or auto purchase if you do nothing. Some of their biggest deep titles are only available through the Club. There is a Disney Movie Club thread on the Blu-ray section of the forum with details about which codes to use, etc. to sign up. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=221740 Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 01-28-2023 at 11:05 PM. |

This is very unexpected. With the Mickey shorts collections coming as well and hopefully some more live action classics (That Darn Cat and So Dear to my Heart have been rumored for all of last year) it will be interesting to see what they do this year for the anniversary.
I’m curious to see if they go the route with Black Cauldron and Sword in the Stone which got surprisingly good 4K transfers for Disney plus and iTunes. Maybe they’ll even release these on disc (Halloween month exclusives?) While expectations are low, just maybe this is an opportunity to appeal more to purists and artists and correct their botched “restored and remastered” prints from the BD era and release something closer to a “preserved and cleaned” 4K negative print. Cauldron and Sword (latter raising the aspect ratio question) are pretty close! If Cinderella looks anything like that it could be a massive upgrade from the pink carpet and blue dress scrubbing all linework disaster. Only reason I’m a bit hopeful is the movie club outlet, which has managed to release uncensored films like Saludos Amigos (again, besides the Make Mine Music disaster) and the Mickey shorts collection looking pretty decent. After all, corporate exhausted all other outlets in marketing their classics on DVD, BD etc and now that the vault is no longer an effective incentive due to Disney plus, the only reason people might buy yet another release is if it actually has a more premium feeling with decent cover artwork, and a new 4K sourced print that’s not just an upscale of the disastrous restoration work. The set seems to also include a DVD so I wonder if they just cheaply combine the diamond/signature discs with an upscale on UHD or if they reprint all of them from a new true 4K scan. If they continue this deep dive into the vault maybe the other classics will follow. |

Other features requiring internet such as virtual vault are also dead along with BD Live. The only thoughtful Inclusion in the diamond era classics was the DisneyView option which filled the black bars with archive art and newly created art complementing the image. While included in some digital extras like iTunes, availability outside popping in the right disc is inconsistent and Disney plus sadly does not care to include options for classics like they do for marvel imax etc. imagine if Disney streaming went the premium archive approach route offering multiple versions (restored, raw scans, deep dive into extras and legacy releases) instead of cocomelon style clickbait thinking Disney classics only need one neon scrubbed version for absentee parents before focusing only of Star Wars and marvel with any depth to their content and approach. (Looking at the many Disney TV series still out of order, missing episodes, cropped aspect ratios, or entirely missing after they were said to be coming “soon” back in 2019…) So far the only thing getting some kind of aggressive premium treatment is the Simpson’s and frankly I could not care less and wish they even included an option to chose and hide franchises. |

I will buy the other classic Walt movies in 4K, should they release them and they aren't DNR messes. Heck if Fantasia is one, I'll buy several copies in support of it. I'm just cautious given their track record.

Those of you who think Disney would release Cinderella in 4K through the DMC have a lot higher opinion of the DMC than actual members of the DMC lol

Nobody's disputing that it's going to come out and that DMC will have a version with a DVD that's exclusive to them... what we're casting doubt on is the idea that DMC is the only place that's ever going to have it period. I gave multiple examples of a "format exclusive" a few posts ago, it just means they added a DVD in with the releases that don't have them.

I have very little interest in Disney as a brand but I'd absolutely sub to their Insider Club if they ramp up the UHD physical media.
They could lock their entire catalog behind the pay wall and it would be fine by me. As long as I can buy it. That's all that matters to me. I long thought as physical media dwindles from big box stores that labels and even studios should have their own stores to sell direct to customers. A24 and Disney in particular should have an online store that sells all of their movies directly. Even if you charge $40 or $50 a movie, people would bite if they are getting a quality release. It's easy money, makes your fanbase more loyal and is a piece of history. I just need Tron and Tron Legacy somehow... Last edited by dcx4610; 01-30-2023 at 03:30 PM. |

I meant I was hoping for a re-release on UHD as they have been doing with some of their UHD exclusive titles from D+ and Digital services (Hocus Pocus, Pirates (1 and 1-4 in international regions), Roger Rabbit). Hoping to see these come to disc in the future, especially Black Cauldron and Sword int he Stone. |
