No, Sky Captain didn't say otherwise. Sky Captain really just said: Universal US == burnt-in subs; Universal international == stylized player generated caps (opposed to formerly poor player generated subs). And this being a thing since a while by now. Which is true.

EDIT: Oh, and I still prefer the properly burnt-in ones and hence still buy the US releases and care about such info resp. always like to know if there are any such subs. Hence my post. The stylized player-generated subs are an improvement over previous international Universal releases, but from my POV they are still a downgrade and not the original ones. I'm really picky with those.

I see. I understand where you are coming from in wanting the disc to exactly match the theatrical release, but I would still have to disagree. Assuming they are properly authored to match the theatrical subtitles, there shouldn't be any difference to the viewer's experience whether any subtitles are burnt in or not. A bonus with soft subtitles is that they can be adjusted on the fly (by players with those abilities) and then, if you can rip the disc, the soft subtitles can be extracted and saved for reference and use with other versions of the film.

That said, when I post about discs from anywhere, I will be sure to note whether subtitles are burnt in, forced or optional, whenever possible.

Player generated ones can look very good these days, but one can (often) still tell and I'm just very picky about it. I even admit that I sometimes can't really tell. With this one I might. I could certainly live with the player generated ones now, but when given the choice I still pick the original.

Sorry to belabor the point, but when you get a chance, could you give an example or example of this? I'm genuinely curious, because I thought the intent of these soft stylized subtitles was to match the theatrical ones, not just look like them.

Off the top of my head, I think there was some issue with Sony's Bram Stoker's Dracula remastered Blu-ray (and the 4K UHDs?) having subtitles in a gold font that didn't exactly match the theatrical subtitles, and then Night Watch and Day Watch not having the stylized subtitles from their DVD versions, but for modern movies preserved on digital formats, especially new releases, I'm not aware of any issues like that. If it's the case that these soft subtitles are not matching, I would very much want to know about that.

I can't provide you such a comparison, but I've seen such. They simply don't look exactly the same. And I want the original. Which isn't the exact point I just made, but it is one. And if you compare, you will also see why I can tell. But as I said: Sometimes I surely can't.

Some care about the OG audio even if they can't name a difference. I care about the original burnt-in titles.

If it's anything like that then I'll skip this because we turned that movie off after about 20-25mins we hated it so much. Now we like quirky, fun movies, but that one just did nothing for us. I also didn't like Deadpool 2 anywhere near as much as the first one, but am looking forward to seeing the third since it seems better than 2. I'm just wondering if his movies just aren't my thing.
BT sucked !

Again Hated Bullet Train, everyone was SOOO excited about how great it was and thankfully I was just burned by another blind buy (Talk to Me, another one people love and I just didn't like it at all) and we somehow managed to see it before buying and turned it right off. No idea why people like it so much!? haha

Deadpool I've seen a ton, love that movie and #3 is making me want to see that one too since it seems better than 2 (I really hope). But #2 I've seen it once maybe twice, but I was doing other stuff while it was on in the background since it doesn't really hold my attention.

Atomic Blonde we watched once and I can't remember a single thing about it, so it didn't leave any impression on me.

Never saw Hobbs and Shaw.

So I guess I'll wait for a price drop and sale (maybe for black friday?) and get it on BD really cheap, that way if we don't like it I'll pass it on to my family since none of them are 4k yet.

Yeah it seems we're in the minority opinion here, but I agree. It's rare that we'll turn a movie off, I think we've done it with only 2-3 movies in the last 30 years! haha We'll try to suffer through most things to see if it gets better, but this one we just couldn't. Now I do have movies I didn't like on first viewing, then liked or even loved every viewing since, but this one we couldn't give more of a chance it was just so unwatchable, to us. And there are movies I don't like the plot/characters/actors that much but the visuals and/or audio/soundtrack is so stunning we'll watch just for that.
I love Atomic Blonde and I am okay being in the minority on this film. But despite that the fight in the middle is so bad ass and a lot of people would argue is one of the best fights scenes on film, with me being in that camp.

Atomic Blonde is awesome! Not a movie appealing to everyone and that's perfectly fine. Those are the best kind of movies unlike the modern wave of superhero sludge trying to appeal to every imagineable viewer.

Edit: Gave the theatrical cut a watch and no, this wasn't any good. And I'm a fan of Aaron T-J but even that couldn't save this. Metal Storm however with Jason Momoa looked like a blast and I would've wanted to see that one instead lol

Extended cut now on Peacock so I'll be seeing this movie for free in a little while. Have not seen it yet.

update: Just like what I thought this movie is no big deal. How did Emily Blunt get a job in Hollywood? Relatives in the business or something?

When comparing the two versions I noticed AC/DC Thunderstruck was replaced with an Engelbert Humperdinck tune. I don't know which I like better buy why the change?

I watched the theatrical version last night and liked it a lot. The entire cast was good, but Blunt and Gosling have such great chemistry that they elevate the material. But I thought it felt too long and could’ve benefited from trimming some fat. There were times I thought I might’ve been watching the extended cut, but nope.

Watched the theatrical version, felt it was a pretty good movie. Decent plot with some good comedy. Also got the Walmart steelbook.

While I don't want to complain about studios offering multiple cuts, of all the films people wanted a different cut to be included this one seems like an odd choice to give an extended cut it's own disc. But maybe 4k UHD production is just getting cheaper now.

I just don’t have the time to watch all of the movies I buy within the stores’ return period. Hopefully studios will still do replacements if there are issues a couple of years out!
Just ordered. Only $12.99 from Gruv, I’m having a hard time keeping up with you, but I do watch them all on delivery.

What a steal of a price! I enjoyed the movie. Hopefully you will.

I hope to some day watch them within delivery week. I don’t think that will possible until I’m retired though ha.

Also got Furiosa and American Sniper for the same $12.99. A little patience helps a lot on pricing, good when your on a fixed budget!

I thought the theatrical cut of this was one of the funner movies of 2024 by far. The extended edition sucks.

Received all three today and all with slips. Gruv usually has slips no matter how old the release is.
