We'll most likely get an extended cut with the filmed violence (it is RS after all)

I'm a HUGE fan of Ridley Scott My Aunt and Uncle actually are his next door neighbors in London. Crowe lives a few houses down from him as well. REALLY nice and cool guys when I met them last year.

With that said, Robin Hood kind of came out of no where to me. I didn't know it existed until about 2 months ago. The trailers kind of worry me it looks.....a little bland???? But my hopes are high!

That is so cool! Scott is my favorite director, as is Crowe being my favorite actor. Even if the film itself is crap, if Crowe gives a good performance, I'll enjoy it.

But it was really fun and really impressive.

8/10
8/10 from someone who was less than excited to see it is pretty good

Can't wait (but I have to until Tuesday )

The History Channel had a nice documentary on the Robin Hood legend(s) last night. They showed quite a bit of clips from the movie. Scott & Crowe also chimed-in with some comments. It was interesting and thankfully more than just a shameless plug for the movie.

This movie looks cool, but still.....it has Gladiator II written all over it in my eyes.

Saw it yesterday - it's a decent film but not comparable with Gladiator in scope, story or performances.

Although I think the story has some serious issues, it's refreshing to watch a Robin Hood film with a different take on the legend, or should I say, the origin story before the legend. More action and less plotting and character exposition would have resulted in a better balanced film. The sets, production design and cinematography is gorgeous, the soundtrack somewhat bland and forgettable.

Overall 3/5

When seeing the end credits, you see what film RS was really wanting to make

Much better than Kingdom of Heaven. The first hour for me was amazing and interesting. The second hour slowed down the pace some and had some unnecessary parts imo. End battle was very entertaining.

Some of the battle scenes are absolutely fantastic. Not the best movie ever, but definitely a movie I hope is followed by a sequel.

I can't remember if I've seen the DC or just extra scenes on you tube. If I recall the extra scenes did make the movie better.

But Balen's attitude of "This is Kingdom of Conscience so I'm not going to allow a murderer to be killed and marry his wife, instead I'll sleep with his wife while the man's still alive and allow him to become king so that he can go on to start a war that kills thousands of innocents" was still too much for me.

I almost got into the midnight premiere tonight for free after seeing Iron Man 2 again

My friend's brother was going to get him, myself and his brother in (he knows the manager or something), but he ended up not being able to make it so we couldn't go without him

I just got back and loved it!!! Great writing (sneaky subtle comedy).

Never boring. Hurt, Strong and von Sydow were awesome. I cant believe RT's rating.

I just don't get the reviews of this film. It's not as good as Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, but hot damn, was it rock solid.

The idea of putting the myth of the character into historical context was not a bad idea. It anchored the film. There was only one real part that bothered me but nothing to kill my enthusiasm for the film.

I eagerly await the extended cut on Blu Ray because we all know Ridley's going to provide one...

----
Quote:
- There is a whole lot of meanwhile in this crowded, lumbering film.
A.O. Scott, NY Times
- Robin Hood fans hoping for some of the dash and wit of the classic films that starred Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn should set their expectation meters to Off.
Kurt Loder, MTV
- A prime example of what happens when big stars lose respect for the audience.
Julian Roman, MovieWeb
- Why should we have to wait until the last five minutes to see Crowe crack a smile, let alone split an arrow?
Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post
- In a motion picture buried by its own lifeless, meandering self-importance, the viewer looks at the screen, takes it all in, and questions every step of the way why he or she should care whatsoever about any of it.
Dustin Putman, DustinPutman.com
- Of course Marian has to fight now too because women always fight in movies now and this is like everything else. Remember when that was new? It was actually a big deal when it started happening. Now it's another cliché.
Fred Topel, Can Magazine
- Men In Fights -- grim fights, grinding battles, clanking combats that are repetitive and, in a movie that runs 140 minutes, all but endless.
Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
- This is Robin Hood, brought to you by the color gray.
Andrew Schenker, Slant Magazine
- It’s like an episode of 24 with furrier overcoats.
Andy Lowe, Total Film
- Saving Private Robin!
Scott Mantz, Access Hollywood

(So, we've had the first Good big-budget first week of May epic, and we've had the lame Studio-Concocted crappy second-week disappointment....Let's see, that means we tradtionally get one more surprise good one for the third week, and then the unwanted Shrek sequel--
Well, guess that means...Hey, wait, they switched Prince of Persia around! )
