A lot of people have been banned here lately.
Some serious censorship going on here with all the posts that get deleted.

Yeah, I asked a mod and he replied it's a 7-day ban.

All will be good.

It seems a somewhat unlikely thread for things to get that heated, but maybe this prolonged pandemic has frayed people's nerves to the point that they have no patience for any disagreements on anything at all? We have lost all three Gone With The Wind threads, of all things, due to a lack of civility.

It's madness, I tells ya! Madness!

Some things here and elsewhere does not make any sense. Ripping disc discussion is supposedly not allowed but folks do it all the time. The buying, selling and redeeming of digital codes is not allowed by the content providers but this site has sections specifically devoted to these actions.

I asked here and AVS about firmware that would allow me to go straight to the main menu and to skip over the FBI screens on my Oppo 203. I was told discussion about said firmware was not allowed here and my post at AVS was deleted.

I agree. He was one of my first 'friends' when I joined this forum just over 3 years ago, and I would have been very sad had he received a permanent ban. I don't have anywhere near the knowledge he has regarding streaming or home theatre in general, and I always enjoy reading his and your comments, as well as those of other members on that particular thread.

I think with everything going on there are too many people with way too much free time and way too little patience. So a lot of powder kegs all over the place.

You have DRM associated with media per blu-ray association licensing for all BD players. No blu ray player is allowed to play .iso files which is a exact copy of the media, or to defeat measures set in place to prevent piracy of physical media. Installing such FW or advertising it is violating the forums rules against DRM policy.

Most of the sources that provide this are associated with hackers. This is not something benign as regional hardware mods. How can I skip over all those DRM, no piracy warnings, well try streaming.

The same thing can be said about ripping disc, selling and redeeming digital codes but both are discussed openly on forums.

Quote:
It is strictly prohibited to discuss websites, techniques, software and any and all methods that can be used to duplicate, acquire or otherwise access copyrighted and copy protected material except via approved methods by the copyright holders (Blu-ray, DVD, iTunes, digital on-disc copies etc). This includes any and all all variations of disc copying software, torrents and any and all technologies that are available or may become available in the future for these purposes. This also includes any other form of illegal or unethical behaviour for example the unauthorised reproduction of copyright material and trademarks. Any breach deemed serious enough will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

Its is not the same. Ripping if you look up the term on Wikipedia refers to that as "Ripping is often used to shift formats, and to edit, duplicate or back up media content". Go read about it in this article.

You were inquiring into how can a DRM controlled playback device can be disabled. If that was allowed the BD player manufacturer would not be permitted to sell players.

Beg to differ, how many disc titles can you rip without using software to defeat DRM on the disc? Never heard of any myself.

Do I really need to copy and paste the agreements required to redeem a digital code included with a disc? The license agreement where one will not sell the digital code included with a disc?

Have stated before in this forum I do not have a law degree nor am I a licensed lawyer. If you are licensed lawyer and current then you should state such, otherwise you are only offering up opinions, same as I. A FYI, I have read most of the white papers published by the BDA.

@Vilya,

IIRC you said you have all your disc alphabetized. With so many how do you accommodate new titles in the A, B, C, etc. range? As in do you insert them on your shelf and move down 3500 disc!!

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been more of a shit show than it has. It's got all the ingredients for heated verboten discussions. You got the bug, you got lockdown policies, reopening policies, masks...lot of hot buttons all in one place but it's either been culled on a very regular basis or people have been surprisingly restrained in there.

When I accumulate a bunch of new titles I start at the letter "A" within each format and slowly and steadily shift the entire collection to accommodate my latest additions. It is a time consuming chore that I do about every three or four months; the only fun part is that while I am doing it I often rediscover some title(s) that I forgot I had. It is about time for me to do another massive shifting.

The DVD collection doesn't grow near as fast as the blu-ray collections, so I don't have to shift them but once or twice a year.

I can see where it had all the potential for fireworks, but that thread has been peaceful up until very recently. Maybe it was a sleeping volcano waiting to erupt all the while?

I received my new 32" curved QHD monitor with HDR just one day after ordering it online at Best Buy. Gaming monitors must be super essential items for me to receive mine this fast.

I bought the Dell S3220DGF and the silly thing came with a display port 1.2 cable, which does NOT support HDR. I had to separately order a display port 1.4 cable in order to benefit from HDR and it has yet to arrive. You'd think that Dell would include a cable capable of realizing the monitor's capability.

It is my first curved monitor and it is taking some getting used to, in a good way, and there are menu after menu of settings to tinker with.

Any system that puts Above the Law at one end and Under Siege at the other is complete and utter madness.

I'm not a fan of Steven Seagull; I don't even own Above The Law and my copy of Under Siege is on laserdisc.
