"Sun" is a proper noun that we named our Star... what are the chances that another galaxy's particular solar system also named their star "Sun".
You didn't mind the fact that most of them spoke English?
Imagine if they called the star "Trent" without explanation (as they would), what would we make of that?

Would that include the "Darksaber" and the white lightsaber from The Clone Wars and Rebels? Or perhaps the orange, yellow, pink, gray?

There's nothing worse than severe Trent-burn, especially in the desert, with all that annoying sand ... It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere ...

I don't think that final shot was less cinematic - it was more cinematic (IMO). But I do think that JJ's vast TV experience affected (perhaps negatively) VII. Since he's used to dealing with episodes, and even when you have different episodes, the tone of a TV series can't change from episode to episode, I think that's why VII copied so many beats from the OT.

I'm really hoping that they don't do that for VIII. I think they need to take SW in completely new directions and tell different stories.

An orange lightsaber would be unique also in VIII.

What would be really interesting is if a Jedi carried a red lightsaber. Red usually signifies bad/evil, so I'm guessing that'll never happen.

The camera rotation around the characters
[Show spoiler]at the end didn't seem necessary IMO but it's not a big deal, as they were trying to show the scale of that shot from a bird's eye view, going for something unique and epic for the character finally revealed; Luke. So I definitely understand why they chose that type of camera shot.

How about Rey with a staff lightsaber?

Most (all) sci-fi is not really following science, as that'd be so boring.

Also, the starkiller would need a sun for it's trees, etc... killing your own sun, is not such a great idea :-)
I wanna know how the Starkiller base traveled though space. How fast could it move? How long would it take to get from point A to point B...?

Did they have a desert part on the planet?

If they need arose how would they evacuate the planet?

Why do things like: the force, aliens, spaceships, lightsabers, hyperdrive, etc all get a pass?

Oh that's right, it's Science Fiction. Not Science Fact.

Carry on.

It's ironic that
[Show spoiler]her great grandson and his militia were able to stop a sun from setting.

This is all we needed to know:

1. This is another Death Star, but bigger. A lot bigger.

2. If you get in its way, you're dead.

Most of us didn't even think of the little details like how it got around the galaxy or what it was called before it became Starkiller.
