I think I ended up redeeming about $200 worth of BN GCs from SK during the BN holiday sales, from the 50% CC to the 40% BD sales. Mind you, most of those points were accumulated throughout the year over 2 accounts, but still a decent amount of points were actually accumulated over the holidays, including points from purchases, mainly at BB. But I also got some nice kicks from submitting receipts for the first time: 750 pts for any Lego purchase from Target or TRU, and I did them both on both accounts, so 3000 pts right there (plus points based on the $ spent) for stuff I would've bought anyway. This app's been pretty weak around here lately. There were some decent runs last year where a $5 cert could be obtained in about a week. But right now I haven't gotten a single one since the year started.

This app hasn't adapted well to the current climate. Don't really go into the box stores as much now and certainly won't touch items that I'm not buying. It was a fun 'treasure hunt' kind of experience around seven years ago as something to pass the time every now and then and grab a few coupons along the way. But eventually the time commitment kind of killed the fun. I nearly forgot I even still had this until noticing an e-mail that points were about to expire. And if they do, that's fine.

Seems about no one really uses this app anymore. Is there a better alternative app these days with decent points/rewards? I'll fully admit they're probably more hassle than they're worth. But I might consider to get the occasional gift card. About a decade ago I might go to places specifically just to use the app since at times you could probably get like 1-2 gift cards per week during peak times like during holidays. Haven't noticed anyone scanning items in stores in quite a while and so I don't know if these kinds of apps are still a thing.

They say that coupon apps killed the Sunday newspaper coupons (true) but it looks like inflation is killing the coupon apps, or at least the killer deals that gave free items or were moneymakers, because there is less incentive for food companies to give out discounts. I posted a summary of the coupon apps elsewhere, so I'll just copypasta it right here: ibotta: still has good referral bonuses. you have to scroll through a bunch of deals that aren’t really spectacular, with the occasional freebies or BOGO offers. traditional bonuses for redeeming more offers is unobtainable for me because I don’t really do that much branded shopping. Redeems as true cash back by paypal or gift cards. fetch rewards: this is the simplest, you just take a picture of the receipt and are immediately credited points (2.5 cents every grocery/restaurant/paper receipt for anything in a store) and their offers are not bad for the brands that partner with fetch. Redeems as gift cards. checkout51: this one seems to be dying out, SmartSource (the newspaper coupon Sunday circular) bought this app a while ago and has kept it afloat. There seems to be a lack of new offers, although they also have the best recurring offer of $2 off $10 fresh beef that no other coupon app offers. Redeems as paypal or a physical check. Tada/Magic Receipts (part of Swagbucks/ProEdge): strangely, some of their offers are very competitive, even though they don’t have a ton of brand partners. And the offers for stuff like Fruit of the Loom or Hanes are unique among coupon apps in that they’re high-dollar amounts and recurring every week (you can use once a week and it comes back, extremely rare in coupon apps.) coupons.com: this is the simplest payout structure, you clip a coupon, take a pic of a receipt, get paypal instantly after approval. the problem is that they rarely have great offers, and their offers on food are becoming even more rare. the other problem is they have restrictions on redeeming manufacturer coupons (paper coupons) or even store coupons (CVS Extrabucks or those instant register discounts at Costco) and every offer becomes a gamble as to whether you get paid or not. receipt hog: takes forever to build up even a $5 cashout, but this app is quite good if you ever need to catalog your receipt purchases and need pictures of your receipts. redeems as amazon gift cards or paypal. |
