I would be almost willing to bet that there will be a pop out spindle that holds all the discs. Much like the Watchmen Owl ship.

It still shows the trailer having much nicer picture than the blu-ray, that's for sure.

It doesn't match the theatrical presentation, a legitimate complaint, thus people are not happy with it, bottom line... |

So, it's okay if a Blu looks overly processed and edge enhanced, because "Hey, it looks good enough for me!", even if it wasn't the director's intent?

Got mine yesterday from a friend in NYC. Haven't had the chance to watch it all the way through yet but it sounds and looks great. I really hope they go back and remaster the first two.
There is a DVD that comes with this edition. I took it out of its case because one of the clasps that held the two blu-rays in the middle had broken off. Another small complaint: Unless I overlooked it, there is no "play all" for the featurettes on disc two. Seriously, Warner? |

Wally Pfister, Nolan, IMAX, and a couple olthers involved in TDK's blu-ray production have talked about the process that was used. The bluray came from an IMAX print. Upon receiving the print, IMAX applies their own EE and DNR processes to the 35mm elements on the IMAX prints to smooth out the 35mm so their isn't a major quality difference between the 35mm and IMAX footage. This means the 35mm elements on the IMAX print do not match the 35MM print people saw in standard theaters which was the print without any additional post-processing. Because the blu-ray came from an IMAX print the 35mm elements do not match what people saw in standard theaters. The standard theater print is the original film print without all the post processing IMAX applies. Therefore everyone wants the blu-ray authored from the original print. In short, theatrical print equals original print. IMAX/Blu-ray print equals additional IMAX post-processing.

I would much rather Warner using the 35mm print and splicing in the IMAX footage. Sure, there would be a bit of a quality change between the two, but I think a lot of people (including myself) would be a lot happier with the change in source quality compared to the ugly post-processing IMAX did on the image.

I think it looks bad. When it came out I thought I was crazy after reading all the glowing reviews. But it was really harsh. I also thought the non-IMAX scenes in TDKR lacked detail. The IMAX scenes for both films are incredible of course.
