The third image is from the 1080p trailer for the blu-ray set. the improvement is amazing. I can't wait for the set to arrive!

I feel it is too dark.
Robin's right arm, under it you can see the cape clearly, but the remastered one, you can see significantly less of it. They increased the Shadow too much. The wall behind them is also no longer brown.
But the detail definition is much better.
But, as these are all just youtube rips, I continue to wait til I see some reviews.
Thank you for the pictures though... too bed there were none of Ms. Craig...

Just a guess on my part, but if the budget on this show wasn't too big, it wouldn't surprise me if the lighting was artificially enhanced.

Regardless, after taking everything into consideration, I'm really liking what I'm seeing about this set. Looking forward to rewatching, and reliving, some nice memories with this show.

Yeah, but how do we know that the brightness that is the correct level of bright wasn't over-brightened to achieve a level of brightness more bright than the original level of brightness intended to be bright?

That remastered shot was captured from a different frame. Robin's mouth is completely closed, while in the other grabs it is slightly open. I'm not saying it's the case here, but even a variance of a handful of frames may be enough to affect the apparent visibility of Robin's cape. I absolutely agree with your assessment though, the detail definition in the remaster is much better.

Exactly! And how do we know that whatever TV set or projector it's being watched on has been properly calibrated and set to the proper level of brightness to reproduce what is actually bright or dark, or what was intended to be bright or dark or what the individual viewer really prefers to be bright or dark?

(Don't anyone's TV sets or projectors include "picture" controls any more or does everyone just use the out-of-the-box default settings, which are usually wrong?)

The difference is amazing. Anyone could see that.

The final screen cap is not the same. So the darkness could be the result of movement. Regardless, I'd rather it be darker with more shadow detail anyway. You can always boost the brightness on your display.

I'm endlessly amused by the unwillingless of people to read more than two pages of a thread.

This thread already contains a lenghty, detailed, point-counterpoint discussion about the brightness of the tv show. After several pages of posts, most people seemed satisfied that all aspects of the argument had been convered.

Now, I see the latecomers wasting time trying to cover the same ground again.

What I find amazing is that, no matter how much incredibly, unbelievably better the image is than the crap we've seen over the years, there will always be people who swear by the grading of the crap, and whine that the new, insanely superior image is somehow inferior to the garbage broadcast transfers that they've seen over the years.

If you honestly feel this way, stick to your shitty, ripped-from-TV Land bootlegs.

Seriously. When this was announced by Conan back in January, people were praying that it wasn't a DVD only release. Now, two months before it's come out, there's *****ing that the set wasn't spread over 50 discs and the audio isn't lossless. Can't we at least wait until the reviews break before we start complaining about quality?

The budget was big.

The Batcave cost a lot of money.

You would have a point if the thread was only a few pages long. But there is a very big difference between being unwilling to read more than two pages and wading through 120 pages.

No, it was supposed to be colorful. When you over-brighten video, you actually lose color clarity, not gain it. As well as overall detail.

We were warned at the beginning that it would appear darker than we remember because we have been watching over-saturated transfers for years.

So be prepared - it's going to be darker than you remember. But that's really how it was filmed, and for the first time ever we are going to see the true beauty of what they filmed. They used a special film stock to get that color detail we'll now be able to fully see for the first time - one that holds up very well over time and should look pretty darn spectacular.

Or, they could be lying because they botched up the remaster...
I have learned never to trust Studios anymore. They, lately have been screwing up too much and blaming it on the tech.

Fellowship was a choice to be green...
Star Wars (all 6) look terrible in every home video presentaion
- TPM - Pink on DVD
- Saber colours wrong on DVD and Blu-Ray

Or companies just being lazy and porting over DVD or older transfers/masters with no work to rescan them.
Halloween series
Star Wars
Star Trek

That's a lot better than I remember it from 70s re-runs. Of course, I was watching it in Ontario on a Buffalo station via UHF.
