I read the manga version earlier this year which I liked a little bit better.
At first I was unimpressed but then as I rewatched and did some research, I began to really like the series. I went from disliking it all together to being a big fan, all over the course of a couple weeks. I also prefer the manga over the anime.

My first exposure was when I blind bought End of Eva on DVD at suncost way back in 2003 or 2004. Back then I had to make my purchases based off the back of the DVD cover, I usually went for movies/ova because I couldn't afford a 5 volume series for $30 bucks a pop. Needless to say I was completely confused, but absolutely loved every minute of it.

As for the TV Series, I saw them through the platinum singles that I would buy from Best Buy as they were released.

Once upon a time I used to rent whatever anime I could find at video rental stores like Blockbuster and Family Video. It was always a meager selection, but they often had some decent stuff. I eventually gave both Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion a try. My poor adolescent mind was not prepared.

Since everyone else is sharing...

I first watched the show on DVD, The Platinum Version, back in 2003. I remember teenage me had a similar reaction to Toji when Shinji gets to live with Misato. Teenage me was like..."THAT LUCKY SONOFAAAA!" Been desperately in love with Misato ever since.

I swooned everytime Misato promised more fan service in the NEPs.

I still got my Gundam: 08th MS Team VHS tapes, I could never muster up the strength to get rid of them. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

The ADV trailer feels super misleading and right on point at the same time.

I first saw it 7.5 years ago through the Holiday Edition set that I got for Christmas 2012. Had wanted to watch the series for nearly as long as I had been into anime (got into anime November 2008 when I was 14 through Bleach on [adult swim]), but it wasn't legally streaming. ADV still had it until late 2011, again the restructure didn't affect NGE's availability, many people and even publications (Ex: Polygon-the misinformation this has...) wrongly claim ADV went out of business and that's why it went OOP. ADV used accounting tricks to survive is what happened, there's a reason Section23 is called that, it's named after a Texas bankruptcy law. The main thing that hurt ADV was the Sojitz deal going bad and them losing 30 titles from that.

As for End of Evangelion and Death & Rebirth, didn't finally see those until this year when I finally got my hands on a scalped copy of Manga's box set, got it for $70 ($20 above MSRP).

I watched it on Cartoon Network i think during the Adult Swim block and thought it was great at first but then it just got weird.

The weirdness is part of what makes it so batshit enjoyable.

WTF was End of Evangelion? I dunno. All I know is I enjoyed it. I remember having a similar reaction to L'Avventura. I dunno what I just watched, but it was awesome!

I saw this nearly 20 years ago when it was on public access TV KQED. It was on every Sunday night. Every once in awhile they would have their fund raisers and try to sell the VHS tapes.

Has there been any leaks as to what Alltheanime's release is gonna include? I think it's been around 2 months since they announced their Ultimate Edition, right?

End Of Evangelion is an alternative ending since everyone hated the final 2 episodes of the TV series. A bit of a bizarre ending but better than the TV series ending.

I know. I loved both endings. Completely unlike any other anime. I like that we got the movie though because it is a beautiful cinematic experience.

EoE is much better than the TV ending. I'd say my ending preference is: manga, End of Evangelion, TV, in that order.

That's actually more of a myth.

It is a commonly held belief that Hideaki Anno created End of Evangelion as a form of revenge against Evangelion fans unhappy with the existing ending to the TV series. In reality, the End of Evangelion is closer to the original concept for the series ending, which was changed due to budget and censorship issues.

Since it seems this is what we are doing now...

I first saw Eva back in the 90's on the original VHS tapes when they first came out. It was shown at the anime club I was part of at the time. I was instantly hooked and had to get all the tapes for myself, it's been my 2nd favorite anime ever since. (The NERV logo is the wallpaper for my Echo Spot and smartwatch. And my avatar at some other forums). Since End of Eva wasnt available at the time I remember downloading a bad quality fan sub of it over dialup which took me 2 weeks, lol.

Then when the platnium DVDs came out I upgraded to those. Now I have the Japanese Blus muxed with the English subs. If the US version ever comes out I'll get that too.

End of Eva wise I've always felt that it and the TV ending are the same, just different perspectives. The movie is the real world and TV is inside Shinjis mind.

Edit: VHS wise I got rid of all those a while ago (I converted everything to DVD back in 2005, and have replaced 90% of those since then) even though one thing I miss about that is is they used to have pictures that formed if you put all the volumes together. Oh My Goddess and Patlabor New Files were some of my favorites.

1.11 is just a way too compressed version of the first half of the show, so you're missing out on a lot if that's all you've seen. Granted, if you didnt like it you probably wouldnt like the series anyway.

I haven't seen the tv series the whole way through. The anime club I was in in secondary school would put on episodes, but not the whole series end to end.

I've watched the rebuild films and enjoyed them so far, looking forward to the final chapter. The thing I like the least about 'Evangelion' is the protagonist. Shinji is just too whiney and wimpy for my tastes. He's really hard to take. Lots of mech show revolve around these types of anti-war reluctant hero types, in many cases probably because they are inspired by 'Evangelion'. They're always a bit frustrating for me, but Shinji really takes the cake in terms of wanting to slap him.

I'll try to watch the whole tv series at some point, but I'll probably end up preferring the rebuild movies for moving things along quicker and dwelling less on Shinji whining and resisting his fate.
