HAHA! Well, unfortunately I don't think I'll be around for that sort of hyper-tech. But you are right about the improving 3D technology -- I'll have to give it another chance sometime in near future.

Oh, and judging by the outcomes of Total Recall, I'm not so sure about that.

Well, we're never going to agree on the quality of the content of Gravity. I didn't find it boring in the slightest. Then again, I'm a big fan of both of the two stars, so that certainly helped. And while I've not seen every single one of Cuarón's films, I've seen most of them and I've never been bored. Not once.

Oh, and as to a film like Gone With the Wind, which I love, I can think of about 500 things I could do with 4 hours that would be more satisfying that watching it on a phone.

There's just no way you can appreciate the cinematography of a movie on your phone the same way as on a huge screen, not to mention the sound. If those things don't matter then just read the 2001: A Space Odyssey novel.

But presentation matters, movies are visual. Not all movies need to be, but those that do aren't necessarily lesser movies because of it. Most of the fantastic films of yore were better books, Godfather excepted, so why watch them at all? Because they offer a spectacle of some nature.

And not just visual, but aural and these days, seemingly physical. Man, when I saw Blade Runner 2049 in Dolby, that place shook like there was an earthquake a number of times. I mean, I love my iPhone. But it's not going to give me that experience.

I brought JINGLE ALL THE WAY up because both Minty and Cinemassacre did videos on it and they both loved it (I know). I tried watching JALTW over Christmas. Couldn't do it. It was just... hyper cloying and sentimental. I'm nominally an Arnold fan, but this was something else entirely.

I watched a total of 1 Christmas related movie during the holidays: Die Hard. And it was mostly due to getting the new 4K release. I just can’t let holidays dictate my movie watching anymore. If I’m not in the mood I don’t want to force myself.

I love It’s a Wonderful Life but it’s not something I can watch every year.

They can "call" the Hosnian system (or whatever), but as far as I'm concerned, the capital is the capital (which was Coruscant). I just called it "New Alderaan" because if the rebels won, I would think they would (1) do something to show respect to Leia and the impetus for the beginning of the end of the Empire and (2) they wouldn't want the capital of the New Republic to retain something that reminded them of the Empire (ie Stalingrad being changed to St. Petersburg).

Don't you mean Herbert's Dune? What does Jodorowsky specifically have to do with it?

No, I mean Jodorowsky's DUNE. He was going to do a 14 hour movie in 1975, but the storyboards were leaked and passed around, which is what jumpstarted Hollywood to pick up STAR WARS. Hell, there would be no STAR WARS or ALIEN (or sci-fi reniassance) if it wasn't for Jodorowsky's DUNE being picked apart, destroyed and reborn in the aforementioned movies.

How can you possibly have the orville over tng when everything good about the orville is from tng? Orville has what like 12 episodes vs like 3000 episodes of tng. cmon
