Haha i noticed that. I guess some people have been having problems syncing trophies between multiple PS3 consoles since patch 2.40 (or at least they noticed at that point). You're not the only one with the problem and it isn't something wrong with your system or anything. Your trophies are also synced correctly on the server, they just aren't appearing correctly on the fat PS3 models. Once the problem is resolved, hopefully every trophy you've earned will appear again.

The trophy list will sync online only. The offline trophy list shows what you have earned on that PS3, not your profile.

It is supposed to sync both ways, and in the past it has. I still haven't noticed a problem with my 2 PS3's but those that have said the problems have started with firmware 2.40.

I remember if you don't sync for a while it takes a VERY long time to get all the trophies onto the new PS3. I think when I bought my slim it took 2-3 days before all the trophy information was completely synced.

The slim uses a far smaller 45nm cell which produces much much much less heat. also power consumption is far less as well, being almost cut in half. With the smaller cell and GPU components i would say the slim would be the last model to contract YLoD....
failure rate has gone up on slims, and general video quality is not as good as the last few phat models. Whatever the reason for ylod, they have increased on the slims.

For the most part you're saying the same thing as me, just on different parts of the problem. Get my info directly from the official PS3 forums

What sources do you have to say the slim failure rate is higher than the fat? Nobody even knows what the fat failure rate is.

Would love to get numbers from Sony... but people will defend them... until it happens to them. Most PS forums today sound like 360 forums did in 2006 or so when we were mocking the towel trick. Flash forward today and there are guides on using heat guns, etc. Ah, irony

Most likely culprit is the lead-free solder. Re-ball with leaded solder would be the way to go. That or the case design is just not shedding heat enough, despite the massive heat sink. I'd love to get a dozen or so un-YLOD PS3 and put them in various computer cases, re-ball in the OEM case, etc.

He commented that the slim failure rate is higher than the fat and I'm wondering how he knows that if nobody even knows what the fat's failure rate is. Wasn't really about the 360.

Ah yeah, you're right I misread that. Sorry.

I only brought the 360 up as analogy, though IIRC it's likely similar (lead-free solder) and heat shedding.

Default external hdd/buying question..

I don't know store return rules that good, but will stores let you return a external hdd? I'm somewhat tight on funds. I found a good deal on a internal drive for my ps3 and was thinking of getting that and then also buying a external just to transfer the PS3 data to the new drive. Then just return the external drive. I wish locked stuff could at least be backed up to thumb drives. Thanks in advance for any input

Yep. If you've ever put data on it I recommend formatting it, and if you've ever put sensitive data on it I recommend more than formatting (ghosting or something). I've returned hard drives before without ever having a problem.

Don't know anything about Tiger Direct. I use Memory Express most of the time, they have good prices and there's a store near me (they're Canadian I think). NewEgg is my second choice before going to a BestBuy/Futureshop or something.

I ordered a couple times from tigerdirect.ca and everything went smoothly. And if IIRC, they ship quite fast.

Today I put my loved ps3 to pieces. I'll try heatgun fix to YLoD. I want to get saves and etc from harddrive. So I think to fix old, use backup and then restore backup in new PS3.

Or is it pissible to use old PS3 harddrive in new, without losing stuff. I have read that new console want format old harddrive, is that correct.
