Very true....I don't mind waiting either way. I'll snag the EE's since I have the theatricals on DVD, but even those I've only watched maybe twice since I bought them.

I bet when the EE's come out they'll be over $80 each or well over $200 for all three.
When the EE DVD sets were first out they were around $60 each. I've seen some in the cheap bins at Walmart for $10 these days. I'll most likely rent the Theatrical releases and then buy the EE's when they are on special. |

In any case, I think the EE set on BD will be around $100 on Amazon by release day. I just love Amazon's aggresive pre-order pricing!! (Up + Monster, Inc ![]() -papaholmz Last edited by papaholmz; 11-06-2009 at 04:27 AM. |

I also doubt it will be thát expensive. By the time they come out, the format will be even more affordable in general. Besides that, it has no reason to be extra-expensive, unless they just want to rip off the fans that will buy no matter what just because they can't help themselves... |

Has anybody read the user-review comments at Amazon (US pre-order)? There's an astonishing outcry for the extended cuts and some really pointed comments about the studio srewing over consumers with a theatrical-only release that obviously will warrant a re-buy with the EE version for anyone who purchases the theatrcial BD as a stop-gate.
It's one thing for the "devout" BD consumers like us to complain, but it's really something to see such a clear and nearly unanimous voice coming from regular folks. Last edited by DaViD Boulet; 11-06-2009 at 03:21 PM. |

I still don't quite get all the out cry about a TE being first. You don't like the TE and wish for the EE, then wait and buy the EE when they come out. It's not like Peter Jackson is going around the planet and putting a gun to everyone's head to buy the TE, don't buy them if you don't like them. I am waiting for the EE.

I've been keeping an eye on the comments on amazon since the set went up, I'm astonished at how many people ***** and moan on the page for the theatricals that they aren't the extendeds. Are they 5 years old? If you don't want/like the extended then just wait for the extended page to go up and comment on how awesome it is....even thought NEITHER ARE OUT.
That's why I pay zero attention to amazon user reviews. |

However, PJ has indicated time and time again that he won't be ready to release the EEs for a while as he wants to put work into the BDs to make them exceptional. In the meantime, here on this forum, every other question was about when LOTR would come to blu-ray. I think WB saw releasing the theatricals as a good way to satisfy that demand while PJ worked on releasing the EEs properly. Unfortunately there is no "good" solution, but I can't say I blame them for this plan. |

If PJ wants to re-render poorly executed CGI, or fix some editing problems, then that would validate his statement. If "waiting for an exceptional" release means new bonus material, then it's nothing more than a marketing ploy to get twice as many sales. personally, I'd rather pay twice as much for one version I really want up front than to have to buy two versions to eventually get the cut we really want down the road. Is there something wrong with the 1080p transfers of the extended cuts? If not, then release them now. Want to encourage double dipping? Then do it by not including bonus material on the first round of releases that you'll put out later with a glorified special edition. Folks who want more bonus material can buy again. Folks who just wanted a pristine 1080p/lossless audio version of their favorite films can enjoy their bare-bones EE release. Quote:

The Hobbit goes into production next year, and will be made into two films. So it could be upwards of 2-3 years before we see the extended editions. IMO anyone who says i'm not going to watch these on BD till the extended editions come out is fooling themself. I doubt very much that people are going to withstand the pull of these BD's when they come out. Sure you might get that hard headed I won't budge on this issue person, but you know damn well they'll be watching them, but obviously won't say so. Closet LOTR's !! Also just my opinion I don't mind the theatrical coming out before the extended, plus we won't have to pay as much if they were to box up all the theatrical and extended editions together. I myself wouldn't want to see a extended edition and theatrical on the same disc,I want them seperate. Sure someone might say why don't they box up ee's and theatricals seperately and offer both at the same time. Not the smartest business move, Plus we would probably have to wait even longer so they could polish the ee's. If the extended editions were the only one's coming out, people would be b*tching that they want the theatrical versions. I'm just happy to see these on BD, for some of you have a nice long wait while you wait and wait for the ee's, while most of us who have no issue will be enjoying these great films. |

We're talking about a studio that is releasing a version of a film on Blu-ray that is not the definitive version that both fans and the director consider the final film. So why not release the version they all want? |
