His headphones are wireless! Everyone knows that for great fake surround sound you need a wired connection.

Hey JohnAV I'm happy, I get all the Sound I need. Thanks for keeping up the Digital argument, I know you like both. I keep saying it's all Digital anyway, and I haven't lost anything. Even when Gone with the Wind went down for a few days. Disc is just a Storage Device, and it all goes back to a Master DI stored on a Server that can be replicated at any time. Also if a Digital person gets desperate, they can go to the used Disc Market and rip that Digital File to put on their Server!

You sure make a beach ball look sharp.

What do you think simulated means?

"not genuine or real; being an imitation of the genuine article."

"Synonyms: fake, false, faux, imitation, artificial, unreal"

https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/simulated

Edit: You needn't thank me, really.

The fun of comparing you to inanimate objects is all the reward that I need.

Except your mind.

You continue to peddle the "it's all digital" comparison in an absurd attempt to create a false equivalency between discs and streamed content. It is irrelevant that they both may derive from the same digital intermediate. The streamed content is extremely compressed making it inferior to the disc even though they may derive from the same master. The streamed content has lossy audio further making it inferior to the disc.

If I pour two glasses of a fine scotch whiskey, but then I dilute one with soda and the other with piss, it is of little consolation to the recipient of the latter that the scotch in both glasses came from the same source.

Discs are a storage device that a person truly owns and they contain a superior encode with far less compression. Having your content stored outside of your home on some digital provider's server means that you have zero control over what happens to the content. Not that you care about quality or ownership to begin with, but many of us do.

You're fine with subscription streaming removing content because all that matters to you is that you get a lot for a little: cheap and convenient every time.

Being able to buy discs on any market is a great thing even if they are wasted on you. The verse "cast not thy pearls before...." applies here.

He doesn't even support digital all that much as he prefers to scrounge here for free and cheap codes offered by other forum members. The studios make nothing from such transactions, but none of that matters so long as he finds a steal of a deal.

Some serious censorship going on here with all the posts that get deleted.

The good news is more and better VR AR hardware is coming soon.
There is some very exciting VR tech on the horizon. Of course, Apple are getting involved so that may be huge.

Apple confirms it bought virtual reality event startup NextVR - Verge

It’s unclear how Apple may use the technology NextVR created, but the company is reportedly working on a pair of augmented reality glasses as well as some type of headset, and one or both of those devices may have a VR component similar to how Windows Mixed Reality devices, the HoloLens, and the Magic Leap One operate. It also now has Apple TV Plus, giving it an app to stream the live event content captured with NextVR’s cameras to smartphones and other screens that may pair with any eventual AR and VR devices.

Apple will cover both bases and I think that’s the wise choice. A VR headset that synced with the IPad, IPhone and Apple Watch would be very interesting. One person in VR, one on the IPad.

Fantastic to see you back. We need to keep hold of as many physical media members as possible.

As for the UK tax - well, it wouldn't surprise me. People losing jobs because of the lockdown, and their answer is to increase taxes. Great idea!

Agreed mate. Working class always suffer. Work hard, punish them harder.

Sit on ass all day, uninterested in working for a living, look after them. That’s our country. I know people in the city who haven’t worked since leaving school.
If you have your own home and work you get slaughtered.

Anyway, I better stop talking politics or I will get suspended!

KALEIDESCAPE: A GLIMPSE AT THE FUTURE OF 4K HOME ENTERTAINMENT

https://thedigitalbits.com/featured/...-entertainment

Quote:
Remember, this isn’t a streaming experience. You download the movie directly to your unit. So when you play it back, you’re doing so at the full bit rate—up to 100 Mbps (compared to 20-25 Mbps for Netflix 4K, for example). Compared to streaming, Kaleidescape delivers 3-12 times more video data and 10-50 times more audio data to your movie player’s processors. An SD movie from Kaleidescape represents bit-for-bit DVD quality. An HD movie is bit-for-bit Blu-ray quality. But here’s the kicker: A 4K movie from Kaleidescape is at least bit-for-bit 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray quality and often better. Keep in mind, while physical 4K discs are limited to 50 GB, 66 GB, and 100 GB configurations, Kaleidescape has no such restrictions. So when they’re able to do so, the company maxes out their movie file sizes.

Let me give you some real-world examples:

Disney’s physical Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 4K release comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is 80.8 GB. Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War 4K comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is 86.3 GB. And Disney’s Avengers: Endgame 4K comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is a whopping 103.3 GB!
This is an interesting read. I will cling to my discs until they pry them from my cold, dead hands. But if the future truly is disc-less then this sounds like the best viable option. What really piqued my interest was quality that is better than UHD disc. If the costs come down then it may be worth looking into for us disc folks assuming discs eventually go away.

I hope VUDU problems are large enough to get people away from buying online movie licenses. At least for the people who pay attention
