I don't know if the Borders.com code will work for pre-releases or not, but at this point in time, Amazon seems to have the lowest prices for the Fuller films.

How is Borders when it comes to blu-rays? Are they inconsistent with B&N, where it'll take forever to get the movie?

Since The Man Who Fell to Earth is OOP, would I have a low chance of actually receiving it?

I have both Fuller films pre-ordered. Pretty excited to watch both of 'em.

Last time I ordered from them, I got it within the estimated ship date. But then again, it's the same with Barnes & Noble for me so there's really no way you can tell for sure. It may be OOP but since they say they have it in stock then you should get it.

I haven't ordered from Borders before. Like Sooper said, I would go ahead and get it. It is worth a shot.

I have my eye on "Shock Corridor" at the moment. Not sure about "The Naked Kiss."

The interview is also fantastic (part of a longer set, the other part of which appears on The Naked Kiss) - Mrs. Towers discusses her relationship with Samuel Fuller and John Ford, and how the two directors saw her differently; one used her to play prostitutes and strippers while the other used her to play true ladies, etc. Wonderful.

Edit: There are some great French documentaries about Samuel Fuller, which as far as I know have never been released in the U.S. They would have made excellent Blu-ray exclusives, but I have to speculate that they were either too expensive to bring or Criterion simply did not inquire about them (the best one I believe is property of Arte).

Hot damn, thanks a bunch, I just ordered one. They didn't charge me shipping for some reason, but there was tax, so it came to $26.85. Seven Samurai is tempting too.

I would like to see those other documentaries. Maybe they will be included with some future BD releases of Fuller films.

Default Thoughts of More Bernardo Bertolucci on Criterion.

I was fortunate enough to see several films from the recently-completed Bernardo Bertolucci retrospective held at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

I'm just wondering out loud if Criterion has any plans to release a box set of Bertolucci's films, preferably on Blu-ray. It's happened before with other directors. Just last year, there was a big retrospective of Akira Kurosawa's films and, soon thereafter Criterion released a big box of all his films it had rights to (granted the box was in SDVD only). The year before that an unforgettable epic trilogy of Japanese films from the late 1950s and early 1960s called The Human Condition was re-released in theaters and then was subsequently released on home video by Criterion (again in SDVD only).

So, the thought of Criterion releasing a box of Bertolucci's films may very well be wishful thinking. But, the prints I saw at MoMA's series were all new and restored and all distributed by the same company, Cinecita. Also, Criterion already has Bertolucci's The Last Emperor on Blu-ray. Further, the director's Last Tango in Paris will soon be out on Blu from MGM, many films of which Criterion has recently been steadily releasing to Blu as of late.

Given all this, maybe a Criterion box of Bertolucci is possible. It was a nice experience to both rewatch on the big screen films I'd seen before and discover new ones. I would hope the box would include all the films I saw at the retrospective...

The Last Emperor
The Grim Reaper
Luna
Novecento (1900)
The Sheltering Sky
Before the Revolution
The Dreamers
Stealing Beauty

...plus all the other films in the retrospective, including Last Tango in Paris, which I've seen before on TV.

BTW, I enjoyed all the films I saw at the retrospective, but especially The Last Emperor (it just never gets old or anything less than fascinating no matter how many times I see it); Luna (I enjoyed this engrossing, operatic drama more than I thought I would); Novecento (another sprawling period masterpiece, much longer than even The Last Emperor, but it never felt long); The Sheltering Sky (for its look at contrasting cultures); Before the Revolution (for its very new wave style, reminiscent of Truffaut's The 400 Blows); and The Dreamers (I appreciated the film even more during this viewing, my second time seeing it on the big screen). Bertolucci is definitely one of film's greatest artists and storytellers.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up! Ordered it for $24.65 with tax and free shipping (just upgraded to Borders Rewards Plus yesterday in anticipation of an extra 10% off in addition to the regular coupons for future Criterion buys).

Now if I can only find The Third Man new (or lightly used) for less than $90+.

Good deal, but not really a steal. I saw some other new copies of Criterion Blu's on Amazon Marketplace for fairly cheap, Gomorrah for ~$16. Walkabout for $18. Of course there is $2.98 shipping added on.

Always keep an eye out for my fellow Criterion fans. Ebay has a listing for "The Third Man" (new in plastic case) which ends in 8 hrs 41 mins. Current bid is $59.01

Although $28 is a damn good deal for The Man Who Fell To Earth, I just dropped $50 or so on the Fuller films recently and a few more on Lola Montes. My luck.

Watched Easy Rider from the America BBS box set tonight. Wow it looks really good on blu! They did a helluva job and it turned out great. Some of the shots were so clear the print almost looked new! This is the best I've seen this movie, and probably ever will Man I can't wait to dive into the rest of the movies on this set

5/5
