Dark Force also posted earlier this morning that The Backlot Murders is being put back on sale for those who missed it the first time, and to stay tuned to the Facebook page to find out when the second round of the sale begins.

We don't need another vinegar syndrome. They've cornered the market on quirk and oddball stuff. A label that releases normal movies sadly remains elusive.

I would not expect to see if on a DF label release anytime soon. COP KILLERS, sure.

Maybe, if they announced that title, I'd actually care about this announcement, "monkey boy"
Well it was 7:30 in the morning, and I was just starting to drink my coffee, the announcement concluded with the text "and there's one more little thing... Or should we say...really big thing! STAY TUNED..." followed by the one sheet for Flesh Gordon, so I took that pretty definitively. In caffeinated hindsight, maybe not so much. We'll certainly find out. It's a title I've really been hoping for for a long time, so a bit of wishful thinking involved.

As far as the Buckaroo Banzai quote just because you laughed, I have no defense.

I think it has been made abundantly clear that DF isn't "most companies." Freeway 2 and Mirror Mirror are perfectly fine titles for a label that one guy runs with Bill Olsen on call to gum up the works now & then. With some perspective, these are big titles for him and if he puts as much effort into those discs as he does in hyping his company, they'll be great releases.

Man, we give Dark Force some shit, but let's give him more than six months & change to build his brand. It's only fair.

Appreciate that dissention, a lot of the bigger titles have been put out to death. Dark Force is now focusing on titles that we feel needed a revamping and reinsertion back into cinema history. So we will be putting much attention into top notch restoration, box art, menus and extras. We are enamored by the limited edition collectables which we have been currently releasing. We are also very excited about the new relationship with Bill Osco and Cop Killers which we feel is a powerhouse of a little movie that we didn't even know about until recently. Now we want everyone to know about it and we want to release it in its best light possible. Its a great honor and challenge for us to take movies we love like God's Bloody Acre and Cop Killers that have very little surviving elements left, track them down, restore and then re-release them back into the public. Nothing makes us more fulfilled.

I mean, either way you spin it, you take what you can get.

Bill seems to give you a lot of titles and/or use his connections to help you with titles.

I imagine it's difficult to get established in the home video and distribution world and very difficult to convince studios to work with a new kid on the block and/or meet their standards for licensing.

Looking forward to the day you're actually able to strike out and really get some great titles.

EDIT: Quick question though, "Dark Force is now focusing on titles that we feel needed a revamping and reinsertion back into cinema history"

Is it really like that for you?

Or is it just business? Like, you can ONLY license these titles, but you can't say that, so you're speaking about them in a romanticized way and attempting to identify with the average cinephile?

You obviously know your audience here.

Sometimes the way you speak lately seems a little disingenuous, because I know how you've spoken and acted about things in the past and it's just very different from your previous views on things.
I mean, I'm not crazy. And I'm not trying to stir up trouble with the loyalists, just asking a question.

Is Code Red handing over the reins to Dark Force? That's what it looks like to me

What did you think about it?

Did you text Coppola or call MGM about it yet?

Please status with us.

I don't have a definitive reason yet. Let this swim around in my head a while - I'll come up with an answer. Eventually.

I've wondered the same.

Just a vibe I get from time to time.

For any for-profit business the primary goal is to make as much profit as possible. I think thats pretty obvious - if you believe otherwise about a certain company then that proves said company has great marketing.

You get it!

I was asking because I didn't believe "Dark Force is now focusing on titles that we feel needed a revamping and reinsertion back into cinema history"
was true at all and it was indeed about releasing the ONLY titles they can get their hands on and trying to play it off like they actually care about and have an affinity for the titles they are releasing.

Thank you, Ruined!

Thank you, Ruined!
Every company finds their hook with marketing messaging to the consumer. For instance some companies are able to sell boring arthouse films by marketing them as "important" & giving them new a/v transfers, extras, and attractive packaging. If you can find an audience and market well to them that is how you succeed.

Sometimes the hook is a combination of things owners of the company like and things that will make money, but in the end the goal needs to be profit in order to stay afloat
