I’ve heard from sources that Disney will stop making discs after 2020. There sales are down too. Let’s face it, physical is dying a slow death. I’m very surprised that the PS5 will have a disc player as well as the next generation XBOX.

Reminds me of a famous snooker commentator quote from years ago. “For the benefit of those watching in Black And White, the Pink is next to the Green!”

Won't both new consoles offer models that do not have the 4K UHD disc drive?

I disagree. Physical sales have plummeted every year. I can’t recall the last time that physical was outselling digital. We live in a world we’re everything needs to be quick and convenient, and the disc is slowing getting pushed out. We can denied that this’ happening, but it’s happening as we speak.

Who was your source? Donald Duck?

Are you talking to yourself? If not, who are you disagreeing with?

When I give my opinion about the future of home entertainment, I get comments like this, but I don’t take it personally, but physical will gone very soon. I just chose to see that it’s going to happen. Not whine about it.

Nobody personally, but everyone seems to think that physical going to be around for many years to come, it’s NOT. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s completely gone within the next two years.

Ok, thanks for that fantastic contribution. Let me know exactly when because I need to stop buying Blurays/UHD by the truck load.

Disc will be around for many years. It’s not the future, but it will be in my future. My projector, Pioneer UHD player and upcoming PS5 all agree.

In the meantime I will continue looking here to see what my July and August selection will be, already have more on my Amazon list than I can ante for at the moment.

A lot of post here sound just like VCR folks (and some needle vision folks) from the 80's telling us that our LaserDisc would soon be history.

Come And See landed on my doormat today. One of the best war films ever made imo. Just Blu-ray this one (what a hardship!)

Who knows how long it will be around for. However I remember the same thing being said about how vinyl would become extinct when the CD was launched in the early 80's.....and it's still with us nearly 40 years later. From a business point of view, as long as there is profit to be made, physical media will still be around.

Universal, Warner Bros. to Form DVD Joint Venture as Disc Sales Keep Dwindling

Quote:
Universal and Warner Bros. — facing the continued deterioration of physical disc sales — want to pool their DVD distribution businesses under a major new deal.

The studios announced that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment entered into a pact to form a new joint venture to distribute DVDs in North America for new releases, library titles and TV content for up to 10 years.

The companies expect the proposed JV to be operational by the first quarter of 2021. The North American joint venture, comprising leadership from both studios, is to be headed by longtime Universal exec Eddie Cunningham (pictured above), who is currently president of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Ah yes, Ted Lowe I believe.

I can't remember who the snooker player was, but I think it was Ted Lowe as well who commented when the player was trying to balance himself with one leg on the snooker table and the other on the floor, and said something like "he was having trouble getting his leg over".
