Absolutely, that's the point I was making - as long as studios make a profit, discs will remain. No company wants to lose money, and they certainly won't continue to manufacture a product which doesn't show a good profit margin.

Judging by the number of new releases being announced regularly, not only by the major studios but also from the smaller independent labels, it appears they do still make money from their disc sales. And long may that continue.

That’s the guy.

Snooker had loads of characters back then, it was great. It’s changed so much I rarely watch it now.

I am equally humored when a certain someone, who does not even buy discs, tries to tell me that they are getting more expensive. I can't help but think that I would have noticed spending more each month.

Prices are stable, bargains abound, and the selection, is, well, Fantastic!
It’s actually been a challenge not to spend over my limit these last couple of months. Several labels are hitting it out of the park. I thought I might struggle to get my 70-80 discs per year by December but I’m actually having to put some titles on the back burner. If I wasn't paying off a mortgage, I would probably be at 150 discs per year.

You keep talking about profitability of discs being a key driver of their sustainability, while at the same time disclosing that you invest in AMC stock who reported a net income loss in 2019 of $149 Million....which was before the pandemic.

How can you be such a clairvoyant by enthusiastically predicting physical media’s demise which is still very profitable, while at the same time contradicting yourself with your own money investing in a company who is upside down with their balance sheet before it got even really ugly?

The rumor about Disney ending discs is completely unfounded and moreover unrealistic.

Disney puts out content on all formats disc, subscription, and online vendors like iTunes.

They have been amazing releasing so much to UHDBD.

I might never subscribe to D+ because they give me the option to buy the movies. Lease them and pay by the minute or buy them? For me it’s an easy choice.

Having a dilemma. I can't decide if I should buy 30 Rock The Complete Series on blu-ray. I have never seen a single episode of this show. Is it worth a blind buy?

My buying schedule and viewing schedule are two different and distinct things.

I buy when the opportunity is good, but I decide what to watch spontaneously.

30 Rock is one of the victims of subscription streaming's self-censorship with four episodes having been removed entirely. The blu-ray series is intact, but the question remains is this a show worth owning? Will I loves it?

Well, I am not exactly the hardest person to convince to make a blu-ray purchase. 7 seasons of content for $58.99 seemed like a pretty good deal, too.

You're right, the Stock Market is a gamble unless you know the Companies and I have some Rock Solid Investments in the Telecoms with FTTH backed up with 5G. The basic premise is Buy Low, Sell High, and right now the Cinemas are at their lowest, but I believe The Studios won't let them down. The Cinemas are the biggest revenue stream for The Studios, and I'm counting on them to change, trim down, and come back strong. Like I said, the Distribution Model will change, and it will be the Cinema and Streaming Digital!

I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but I'm curious as to why you have such a negative outlook on the future of discs. I appreciate it's your opinion, and I respect that. But I just find it odd why someone would participate in a forum dedicated to Blu-rays simply to continuously post comments about the apparent "death" of discs.

It may happen several years from now, and maybe not. Nobody can be sure. All we can do is support physical media as much as we can.

He needs them to go away because sold all his and went streaming only.

With discs around, he has invested in the second class format and that’s not a good feeling.

I can never get into 30 Rock. It's supposed to be very good but to me it's just "very watchable" instead of "good", let alone "very good".

It's like the "death of CD" mentioned by various outlets including What Hifi. 20 years later here I am still buying CDs.

Now you are just back to trolling which is exactly how you began your tenure in this thread many years ago. You are one of the original trolls that were gleefully predicting the death of physical media as far back as 2015. You were wrong then as you are now and you will no doubt continue being wrong until you make your way out.

Remember how I summarized your long history of trolling comments? You may revisit them here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=21950

We are getting more releases on disc each year and that is hardly an indicator of their imminent demise.

Now and for the foreseeable future, discs represent a good revenue source for studios who are suffering from a lack of movie revenue due to the Pandemic. Once theaters reopen there is no guarantee consumers will go back to them in the numbers necessary to make big tentpole movies profitable.

The studios count on their theater revenue to at least break even on the total cost of their movies. Then all the other revenue streams which represent the lion's share of the profits made from a movie can represent pure profit.

Some have suggested going back to the old style of moving movies from premium theaters (NYC, LA) to secondary theaters (TX, FL) and finally to lower markets (MA, OH). That doesn't work when you have $300 million invested in the movie and marketing. It takes too long to recoup costs. That's why it changed to opening a movie in thousands of theaters in one weekend.

There will always be people who want to own high quality content. Yes that market continues to get smaller but it doesn't mean it will disappear as many seem to think it will. It just needs to find it's level off point. Unfortunately with the Pandemic comes substantially reduced extra cash for impulse buys like discs. Don't think that here at the BD Forum represents normal daily living. Far from it.

Isn't it tiring to be singing the same song again over and over. Yep boring!
