Listening to the stereo this evening. I've got some Augustus Pablo playing at the moment...

absolutely with the way the the XV15 blends in with the AR9LSI's. Effortlessly, just disappears into the room...like the AR's.

I got my new 15V a few days ago and got it set up and it's every bit as awesome as expected. Then I chatted with Tom and he told me how to check the driver in my XV15SE with a battery to see if it was damaged in the lightning strike. The driver tested good so apparently that sub only needs a new amp, which I have on the way. Now it looks I'm going to end up with two awesome 15" PSA subs in my system. I'm really looking forward to hearing the difference a 2nd sub makes.

Congrats on the 15V. You're going to love having the 2, BIG difference.

What's the new amp going to run you BTW? Just curious, as I recently had to put a new amp in one of my PB12 PLUS/2's, and it ran me $380.

BTW Steve, how does the current XV15SE sound being on the riser?

I use mine in a stereo room only, and I was just contemplating this very idea yesterday.

Before the XV15se I had an MFW-15 from the now defunct AV123. It sat on the floor in the same location and I calibrated everything by running the auto setup in my AVR and then using a Radio Shack SPL meter to fine tune. It was my first experience with a big subwoofer, but I thought it sounded good and ran it this way for a while. When I made the riser and put the sub on it it became noticeably louder. I got the SPL meter back out and checked it and it had added either 3 or 5 dB (I don't remember for sure) so I had to readjust it. It also sounded cleaner after being put on the riser. When the MFW-15 died I replaced it with the XV15se and put it on the same riser and calibrated it. I never ran the XV sitting directly on the floor. The XV15se was superior to the MFW in every way though. Bass was tighter and cleaner. Now that the XV has been hit with lightning and replaced, the 15V now sits on the riser and is calibrated. The difference between the XV15se and 15V isn't nearly as dramatic as the previous change was, but I'm really looking forward to trying out double subs. I've read all about the improvement it's supposed to make but I've never experienced it before. The only concern I have is their size. Putting the one in the corner wasn't a problem, but I'm not sure yet how the second one is going to work out in the living room. I'm hoping for the best though.

ETA: If it works out size-wise I will probably end up buying a ready-made riser for it to get it up off the floor a couple of inches but I won't be building another big one for it.

I'd stack those bad boys if your floor real estate is tight.

I raised the XV15SE up on 2"x2"x24" wood...

Basically this in oak. Placed length of sub, placed some 3" thick acoustic foam I had in between, sat the sub down on top. That did the trick! I ended up recalibrating the gain. And all is good. WAY tighter...just how I likes it.

LOL The idea of stacking them had crossed my mind, but I don't think that's going to be a viable option.

It may be your only option.
Looking at your gallery...looks limited on space for another sub that size.

I'm kicking around a couple of ideas so we'll see how it goes. I won't get to do any experimenting at all before tomorrow though.

I don't think the stacking will work due to WAF. I would also prefer to have the subs in two different locations as my reading indicates I'll get better results from that way.

I'm very much looking forward to what you think of running duals.

I didn't think the stacked idea would fly, I was just bustin your chops. And yeah, much, MUCH better fill with them being separated.

Congrats on the new addition! That ought to be an intense experience.

I have 3 subs in my living room HT, 2 front stage, and one near field behind the sofa.

Will you only be stacking? Are you opposed to splitting the three up?

I didn't try stacking in my room, but having them spread out proves to fill the entire room with even bass. No nulls no matter where you're at.

I will be definitely be doing some experimenting. I have a UMIK-1 and REW. I also have the Audyssey Pro-kit. My placements are limited because of three double french doors (tinted) flank one side of the room.

I have two Behringer B1200-d PRO subs acting as mid-bass modules (MBMs) along the sidewalls which add to the mid-bass chest slam sensation. Plus they fit between the french doors! I can't fit the S3000i up front. I know the best placement for my dual S1500s (catacorner) so I'm thinking that stacking the 1500s up front saves space and gives me an equivalent to the S3000i which I think must go in the rear.

I have thought of some possible alternatives that I will definitely be trying. TGFCS - thank goodness for carpet sliders!

The new amp for the XV15se came today and installing it was no trouble. I hooked it up to the sub out 2 on my AVR, plugged it in and hit the switch and it lit up. I ran the auto setup in my AVR and got it calibrated and then fine tuned with my SPL meter. The difference it makes is very interesting. I played the Ironhide flip scene a few times from the 1st Transformers and initially I didn't think it was as loud. After watching the scene for a 2nd time I realized it actually is as loud, it's just cleaner. Each sub now is doing half the work apparently and it makes for a much cleaner overall sound. I also noticed that it didn't cause all my wife's Willow Tree figurines on the mantle to rattle like they often do. So overall a definite improvement. I also took some measurements and the sub will fit where I want it to go so now all I need is a long cable to run up the wall, across the attic, and down the back wall and I can get it put in place. I've already ordered the cable from Monoprice and should have it in a few days. Until then the sub will be sitting up front. It's partially blocking the door to the hallway but not too bad. We'll be able to live with it until the new cable gets here.

^^^Did you upgrade to the SpeakerPower/IcePower amp or just replace the SE amp?

I'm pretty sure it's just the direct replacement.
