Holy crap! Like the doc wasn't long enough to begin with. What else can be said that hasn't been said already? I've noticed that most of the people who are interviewed either state the obvious or they say something we've already heard before. I'd love someone to actually create a list of all the "new info" that we've never heard before that's in this new doc.

He's the only guy that isn't shown in a positive light. Well, him and the director that made the actress stay on that raft. Forget which entry that was. |

That was a shock to me too. I couldn't find any info regarding a cause of death but I did find her obituary. She passed away August 10th, 2009 at the age of 46.

What an awesome documentary! Worth every penny! I admit I'm kind of new to Friday The 13th, so alot of this was new to me. This and "Never Sleep Again" are certainly the two best documentaries on horror films I've ever seen. Heck, they're two of the best documentaries I've ever seen, period. They are both informative and entertaining. Admittedly, it was very sad to hear that quite a few of the cast and crew have passed on. Mark from Part II was a surprise (I guess it happened quite awhile ago, but like I said, I'm kinda now to the series), as was Melissa from Part VII, and Richard Brooker who played Jason in Part III. Very sad.

Jeff Katz who I was talking about comes off as total tool. In fact, he's had very little to do with ANYTHING regarding the series. In his freshman year of high school he says he bought the "Freddy Vs. Jason" script at a convention for $15. Does anyone else find this funny, considering he was probably duped and ripped off, I mean there were only what, probably hundreds of scripts written, some the studio read and considered and obviously a lot that fans simply wrote. Then he dropped out of college to intern or something to that effect at "New Line" so he could be at the studio which would eventually helm the film, so he got to on set and be within the company during it's production. I really don't believe he had anything to do with the creative aspect of the production. To me, it feels like he shouldn't have even been asked to participate considering that it kinda just boils down to a fan being interviewed who just happened to be with the studio at the time and really just begging "New Line" to do the film. He also just comes off as just a "Freddy Vs. Jason" fan, not entirely a "Friday the 13th" die-hard at heart. All I'm saying is that he was annoying. He didn't bring any information to the table regarding the "Paramount" years, all he did was criticize continuity errors and goofs here and there. He was almost totally mum on "Jason Goes to Hell" and "Jason X" and when he did say something he spun his comments to come out in a positive light. And he's totally absent from the remake segment because he was done at "New Line" by then. |

![]() To be honest, I was most delighted by finding out Kevin (Blair) Spirtas is gay - loved him on Days of Our Lives, never had a clue. And man, I can't believe he is 50 - he could play 35 and I wouldn't bat an eye. I'm sure he has some stud puppy boyfriend, but I'd love to slip him my number LOL. The other Days connections were interesting - I didn't realize it until seeing it all together like this. Renee Jones from VI was on Days forever before she retired last year (she has the record as the longest-running African-American female character on television, 20 years) - and I was really disappointed she wasn't involved in the doc. Retirement or no, it would have been nice to see her (and the woman looks spectacular). And Scott Reeves from VIII (who only appeared briefly years ago on the show) is married to Melissa Reeves who has been on the show since she was a teenager. Quote:
There was far, far too much of him for someone that had little to no involvement in pretty much anything. I've seen him elsewhere a few times commenting on things like this - he just comes across as a jackass. I've seen both discs of the main doc now, just the bonus disc to go. It's pretty good - not as good as Never Sleep Again, but very enjoyable and I'm glad it was made. True, I've always been much more of a Nightmare fan, and while I have seen all the F13th films at one point or another, it was nice to put them all in order in my mind like this (for some reason I thought the psychic episode came before VI). I think there are a few reasons it's not quite the same level - and some of it has to do with the source material. In the Nightmare films, there usually were smaller casts who lasted longer, it seemed - people drop off much more quickly in the F13th series, and whereas in the NOES series there feels like there is a bit more character development simply because we need to know something about why they tick before Freddy can use it against them, so the actors had more to say because they spent more time working on the films. And while there are certainly a ton of continuity issues in both franchises, it felt more like they at least tried to explain Freddy's progression through the series whereas it seems many F13th films really had little reference/relation to the previous respective entry, which gave less to talk about. It did feel like they flew through a few things that I would have liked to hear more about - like the actress from II talking about the bad experience of filming Jason's jumping through the window (there is a very abrupt cut there, like something was edited out). The really wanted to like the writer of VIII - but he kept saying the most terrible things for a writer to say. We ignored this, yeah, couldn't come up with an idea for that, etc. - and to be honest I forgot how that film ended in stupidity (the toxic waste transformation). He just sounds like a terrible writer like he just gave up every time something needed some work. What I was surprised most about was how interested I was in all the Jason's - I had no idea there were so many. When you hear about Jason you just hear about Kane Hodder over and over, and I didn't realize how late in the series he joined and how many had come and gone before him. The reason I was surprised is because, let's face it, Jason isn't terribly deep - but it was really neat seeing how seriously some of them took it, and their stories about playing it. I liked each of them in different ways. One thing I can say, is that it made me want to read the book - the Kindle edition is $10, I just picked it up - and now I'm going to go read about II, because I really want to know what that was about they cut out (and people say the book talks more about the critical stuff than the doc). Overall, I really did like it - don't want to give the impression I didn't - I definitely recommend it, I watched it last night and then today, can't believe how quickly it went (just like Never Sleep). Another positive is that they were allowed much more access to filmed elements - because they didn't have the permissions, Never Sleep has only very short 1-second clips. I was impressed at how some of the films looked in HD, and it made me want to pick up the set more - but I'll be waiting for a cheaper price. I generally groan when people say that, particularly since you get 12 films for $90, but I'll be delving into the NOES set which just arrived ($39 on Amazon) for Halloween this year and hopefully will pick it up discounted sometime over the next year for next Halloween. Only so much time to watch. |

I agree with the Jeff Katz sentiments wholeheartedly. His segments were cringe inducing, not only for his inane banter, but he has a voice that sounds like a brillo pad being buffed with sandpaper. I wonder if the producers divulge why they thought his presence was relevant on the commentary. Was he one of the writers or contributors to the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic series? Haven't read them but I thought I remembered him being involved. Still, that doesn't explain why he got so much friggin' screen time.

In the doc, or maybe the bonus disc, Katz talks about how he had influence on the New Line Fridays while he was there; and his consistent input on part 9 (I think) is what got him hired. So I think it's just a matter of him not getting credited in the titles of those films, not him having had no participation.
