I'd like to say I'm okay with Shinji being a total *****.

I can't recommend the manga enough. It's worth the read. The art is fantastic too.

Have you ever watched Black Clover? I've tried to watch the first episode three times and have never been able to endure the main character for more than a few minutes.

He gets better. I dropped Black Clover around episode 12-13 and then picked it back up and binged it over the course of a week or two. The series itself gets so much better if you're patient with it. Once the elf arc begins it takes a major turn.

I'll give it another try, thanks.

If you like long running shonen then give it a go. Just remember to be patient. Around episode 30 is when my interest in it started going up. By episode 50 I was fully invested. From that point onward it is great.

I love shonen and I've heard great thing about the series which is why I'd already tried to watch the first episode more than once.

Perhaps he's simply supposed to be annoying, at least at the start? Regardless, I'll definitely give it another shot. Thanks again.

I get that you're trying to say the show greatly improves over time, but also saying that a show is lackluster for the first ten hours (30 eps x 20 min each) isn't exactly high praise. Most anime shows end by the time they get to ten hours (or before).

To be fair, I haven't watched it yet, but if it takes ten hours for a series to get good, it'd better be phenomenal at that point to justify the previous mediocrity.

Yeah 30 episodes to get good is not worth the investment. I gave it 8 episodes and I just couldn't do anymore. I have seen clips of later episodes and the main character is still annoying. I don't regret dropping it.

Well we're talking about long running shonen series here, not seasonal anime. Once the villain is introduced is when it picks up and becomes interesting. The first handful of episodes introduce the Black Bulls and each of them become very good characters with real development. Unlike most Naruto characters. That's one of the things that I feel Black Clover has over Naruto. If it takes extra time to give those characters room to develop and be introduced, then so be it. Makes those weaker episodes worthwhile.

I was honestly on the edge of my seat during some of the later episodes. Each arc gets better and better. The recent manga chapters have been phenomenal from what I've heard and what little I've seen. So I'd say being patient with Black Clover is worth it. I totally understand all of the criticism though.

I'm glad I took your advice. I just finished episode five and am hooked. Somehow, despite my initial impressions, Asta's antics went from unbearable to a reflection of his excitability and determination. I'm enjoying it a great deal

Wow you're the first person who has taken my advice on Black Clover. If you like it this early in then you'll love it once things get started. It only gets better.

Sorry for the somewhat necro-bump but how in the hell did I miss this news?
Really hope they get Justin Sevakis in on this, that would get me on this no matter how much the cost. I really don't expect much from a potential US release especially since it'll probably be handled by Funimation.

I'm actually glad All The Anime is doing the release because their "Ultimate" edition releases are balls to the walls. (which Evangelion is getting)

And yeah, hopefully they got Justin Sevakis on this. I'm sure the quality will be amazing, but everyone's first question is...

Which dub will it have?

Had no idea this was a thing until this thread got bumped, while I am somewhat excited I'm holding back until they give out more info on if they're going with Netflix or ADV dub/sub. No interest personally if they go with Netflix, I'll just keep my ADV DVD collection.

Not really a fan when Netflix or Amazon Prime get an anime because it usually means a physical release is either not coming or is really delayed and with Netflix even its digital release will take awhile outside Japan. Still waiting for a physical english release for Banana Fish or LWA (I know the Japanese release has subs but those prices) and newer stuff like Beastars, Dororo, Vinland Saga. Even just the hint at them getting a release in the future would be nice.

"But it won't be licensed elsewhere!"

Italian publisher Dynit has licensed NGE and the movies. Scheduled for a 2021 release date. The Netflix dub may not be included.

Death(True) & EOE will be featured in selected cinemas in December 2020. (source)

Who will announce it next?

I’m betting we’ll hear more the closer we get to All the Anime’s release. I have a sneaking suspicion Shout Factory will be the ones licensing Neon Genesis Evangelion for North Amerca, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Next month would bring along the first 2021 home video announcements. For January at least. We may still have a long way to go before we hear about a NA release from whoever it may be.

This is pretty much what I think. I hope we might see more Netflix titles come out too via this combo of Shout Factory and Anime Limited. I would love to own A.I.C.O and Devilman Crybaby.
