Just the other day though i put all my saves on a USB (well, all the ones i was allowed to copy). Just my Borderlands guy is 2 levels lower. But if Sony deletes them, then i can still use my USB copies, right? And all my stuff on the Playstation Store will still be under my downloaded stuff.

I'm 99% sure i no longer have any warranty, so i could try to fix it myself. I keep on seeing people talking about this super easy tactic, if you could point me in the (definetly) right direction, i'll take a look!

Here's the video guide I used when I fixed mine. It's super easy to follow. I've NEVER built a computer or anything and I did it with no issue. Supra just had to do his too, so it's fresh in his mind if you need and pointers that I can't remember.

--

I believe you'd be fine with your USB saves... But one of your spots for your games and your only spot for your movies is taken. And the ONLY way Sony will unlock them is if you let them fix it.

Whatever you do you want that machine running again so you can either continue using it, or so you can deactivate your game and video account if you plan on getting a slim.

I got a slim out of panic... but wish I hadn't. Some people have done the YLOD fix more than once, but most people say it works fine afterwards... So i'd fix it yourself and see what happens.

WORST case you'll have to do the YLOD fix again down the line...

Yeah... It's 1am for me... lol. And you'll need special tools... (I bought, used, returned) I'm sure you could do the same.

Same here mate. Went to play a PSN game yesterday, game froze and PS3 turned itself off. Went to turn it back on, got a green light briefly, then yellow, then three beeps then flashing red light.

Bought my 60Gb back in October 2007 so it's lasted me quite a while. Backed up my stuff last Sunday but since then started a playthough of God Of War 3 on Titan which am now going to lose

However, I subscribed to Continuous Play while it was still in effect so hopefully get a replacement sometime this week.

I was able to find this one store in my city which is family owned and has been in business since 1985. They repair electronics and it seems they fix any video game console for only $70 and take only 2-3 days to repair. I'll have to phone them on Tuesday as tomorrow is a holiday and they are only open on weekdays... but i think i've found my way out!

I just hope they can save all my game saves... Heavy Rain was one which wouldn't let me copy my saves. Just 6 trophies away from platinum!

I've never tried but there are some hard plastic scratch repair kits you can find pretty easily at hardware stores. I've heard people use them on their cell phones for minor scratches and scuffs and they say it works.

I also used some Pledge furniture polish on some small scuffs on my motorcycle plastics. It worked pretty well although they're still visible.

Looks like I have a case of YLOD

I guess I really can't complain though. It's lasted me since Dec '06. Now I'm debating fixing it, letting Sony replace it, or just buying a new one. If you send back a launch 60gb will you get a working 60gb as the replacement? I can't remember the last time that I put a PS2 game in mine, but I sorta hate to give up that feature.

Good chance you won't get a 60GB console back. Not too sure on that though.

I know what you mean, I used my PS2 BC maybe once in my 60GB PS3's life to try it out, but for some reason I still wanted to hold onto that feature (I even had a PS2 hooked up beside my 60GB PS3...) Now that I pulled the trigger on non BC models though, I don't even give it second thought. Personally, I would recommend you buy a new one (instead of repair) if the only 60GB PS3 feature holding you back is the PS2 BC.

I sent my 60g off in June to Sony. I got the one i got the one i had purchased back, guess that was luck though. Aside from that you will get a 60g back though it might not be the same one you purchased. If you don't want to give it up it's worth sending in.

There is some good news. I just got off the phone with Sony Support. You actually have 2 options for repair. For $129 +shipping/tax you will get back a refurb unit that will not be a backwards compatible model. But for $149 + shipping/tax they will either fix yours or send you a refurb of your exact model number. My order came out to $188 total. Since you may (probably will) get a different unit back, they recommend that you remove any HDD upgrade that you may have installed, and put the original HDD back in the unit. You don't have to do this, but there must be a HDD in the unit. You get a 90-day warranty with the replacement also.

EDIT - I just received a confirmation email on the service request. It says that the ORIGINAL HDD must be in the unit or it's not eligible for the trade in option. Not sure if they would still repair a unit that doesn't have the original drive in it or not. I still have my original HDD which I already put back in anyway.

Do a backup first before sending off the system. If you take out the HDD and get a different unit back, there will be no way to get your data off that drive. It will format it as soon as it goes into the new PS3.

Default Ps3 Problems - Freezing?

My PS3 keeps freezing. I tend to play sport games such as Fifa 10, NBA 2K10, Madden NFL 10 and NHL 10 and the games start normally and then the commentary goes out while the game is still going and then about 2 minutes later, the playstation freezes. Then i try to turn it off and it takes about 30 minutes to turn off. Sometimes, the playstation does not even read the disc. The bluray player still works just fine as well as the internet however it seems to be only the games that do not work. This has only begun to happen recently (about 1 week). Does anyone have this problem or has anyone had this problem? Is there a method to fixing it without sending it back to Sony? (That is my last resort.)

is it the ps3 fat or slim?

what is the last firmware you have?

can you buy or borrow a game other than what you have as a test or can you take a couple of your games over to a friends house to test them there?

is it still under warrenty?

if all else fails, as a last resort before sending it in for service, you can save your "saved games" (depending on the game, some won't let you) onto a thumb drive and "restore ps3 system" this would correct if there is something corrupt in your OS on the HD.

please keep us posted.

Sounds to me like the laser in the BD drive is going. I think there are some resources for that problem in the first post of this thread.

Lately Ive been getting a lot of PSN disconnects. Basically more than usual.

I tried to play LBP and it keeps saying the game disappeared when I try to play with someone....

I went into Settings and tried to do the PS3 internet test and it told me twice that it failed to connect/detect to PSN. Not only that the PS3 is taking longer than usual to connect to PSN when it loads up.

If my PS3 dying or something? I am using the internet on my laptop and it seems fine.

What do you mean by "lately"? Maybe last night? I was disconnected five times within two hours last night playing BC2 onslaught, but my internet on my computer was working fine and I was able to sign back in immediately. It was weird.
