It may happen several years from now, and maybe not. Nobody can be sure. All we can do is support physical media as much as we can.
I have been on this Forum longer than you, and I also had a large Collection of Discs. I still have many Classic Discs, probably a couple hundred. So I have been through a lot of the Format upgrades, and IMO Streaming is the next step and The Future of Movies and TV Shows. Nothing is dying or will terminate, it all originates from the same DI. I believe we all just have to move on, the Love of Film does not fade away with The Disc!

Seniority may matter at work, but it means NOTHING on an internet forum. In your case, it just means that you a tenured troll.

Streaming is not the future; it is the present. There is nothing new about it and nothing about it has improved in several years; the same codecs and the same anemic bitrates.

Streaming has, in fact, gotten worse as they have proven how eager and willing they are to self-censor content.

It does not matter one bit that both discs and streaming encodes are often derived from the same source. It is how they are compressed and encoded that matters and streaming compresses the life out of it introducing all manner of artifacts. It is what is done with the digital intermediate that is important and streaming craps all over it.

There is a chance, a very good one in fact, to improve the quality of streaming through the use of the up and coming codec VVC, which will not be adopted by the Blu-ray Forum.

I just received three more blu-rays today with another 8 enroute.

Two of them were South Park seasons 22 and 23. I am somewhat surprised that the offended by everything mob hasn't gone after this show. If streaming services were to take their censoring hatchet to this show the credits would be all that remain.

Thankfully, my blu-rays are immune.

It won't be used to improve quality, but rather to reduce the bandwidth used by the streaming services. It will save them money and they know that their low expectation customers are already satisfied with what they get now.

Plus, existing hardware, TVs and other streaming devices, lack the processing power to use this new codec. People will likely need to buy new hardware and I doubt that many will until their existing stuff begins to fail.

"The big caveat in all this is that such changes tend to require ever faster computer processors (CPU), which can make backwards compatibility with some older devices (e.g. particularly internet connected TVs, Smartphones, set-top-boxes etc.) a bit more problematic. Generally, it tends to take a few years for any new standard to fully propagate and so we may have to wait a bit longer before the benefits start to be realised."

Spartacus 4K restored is almost here (July 21st), first review is seen linked in this forum post.

Like Lawerence of Arabia in 4k, Spartacus 4K is a must have to anyone that is a film buff.

Yes you have been here a lot longer than me - I wouldn't dispute that for a moment, although I'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to mention this. I've also seen a few format changes/upgrades over the years, however I can't say much about streaming as I have no experience with that.

He thinks seniority as a is a credential.

As for streaming; you're not missing all that much. Maybe 1 in 100 so-called originals on Netflix are worthwhile.

Not going to lie, the two that hurt me are Apple TV having an exclusive of The Greyhound with Tom Hanks and The Old Guard with Charlize Theron. Those both deserve a disc release so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I love war films and I love Tom Hanks but there is just something about this film that doesn’t appeal. It just leaves me cold.

And in your 11 years here, what of actual true significance have you contributed to this site? Such as providing information regarding release dates and correspondence you have had with distributors about Blu-ray/4K titles, accurate disc specs from personally checking the discs, picture and audio quality feedback after watching Blu-ray/4K titles etc?

Right there with you with loving war films and Hanks. Curious what it is that is missing for you on this one.

I'm a fan of Tom Hanks, too, and I am confident that this movie will get a disc release in due time. I very much want to see it. I think I have seen most of his movies with the exception of A Hologram For The King. I heard that one was a little dull, but I'll still make a point to watch it someday.

With theatrical exhibitions not happening, studios are looking to make money where they can. If anything, they likely value their remaining revenue sources all the more including digital and physical distribution. After this period of Apple exclusivity, Greyhound will be available widely.
