PS make GoT seasons available on 4K separately. I have 1, 8
I have season 8 on 4K myself; I bought it because the price difference between it and the blu-ray was only $5. It cost me $45 for one season on 4K disc

Buying the complete box is cheaper even if you only need seasons 2-7 on 4K. At current Amazon prices, the complete 4K box set is $209.99. Divide that by six, the number of seasons left to obtain in 4K, and it is just $35 per season. Seasons 1 and 8 on 4K cost more than that when they were released and in most instances so did the individual season blu-ray releases. It was not uncommon to pay $40-$50 per season for the blu-ray seasons on their release day.

For those that waited, the per season cost is just $26.25 for each of the 8 seasons on 4K and that is a bargain.

HBO is doing the same thing with Game Of Thrones on 4K disc that they did with The Sopranos on blu-ray. They released a couple of seasons on the better format and then they only offered the complete series box sets for those that wanted the entire series that way. There have not been individual releases of each season of The Sopranos on blu-ray and the same thing is happening with Game of Thrones on 4K disc. Plenty of people saw this coming.

You also have the option of selling off your existing seasons in an attempt to lower your net cost. You could even sell the included digital codes if you have no use for them and if you do not care about the terms of use governing such codes. There will be people on this website sniffing and scrounging about for them.

As popular as the Witcher’s 1st season was, I would have to think that we should see it on disc. I will definitely jump on it then.

Tv shows have certainly filled the void of new movie releases on physical media it seems for me. I am working my way through the complete Mr Robot series which just came out, 12 Monkeys gets delivered Tuesday, 1st season of the Outsider later this month, and the 2nd season of Jack Ryan in August. 1st season of Jack Ryan was outstanding, so really looking forward to that one.

thanks for confirming the obvious. Nothing clickbait about it or his work. It was a honest state of the industry for this year/pandemic etc. And a follow-up to his excellent piece on Kaleidoscope that he recently did.

For most of us that do both we have a problem when posters say streaming quality = disc quality. Objective and subjective data says otherwise.
They can co-exist, but here is where I draw the line. I'll give you Objective, but Subjective is different having to do with ones own moods, attitudes, and opinions. So if I feel Digital Streaming is Disc like Quality, that is my Subjective feeling and I don't see the flaws that you guys see. IMO Streaming is Disc like Quality!

You don't own a UHD BD player, so as much as you seen a couple of films in your cousins set up you yourself cannot compare A/B between one another. I don't have any problem telling you that any 4K UHD BD beats a 4K stream easily. All you have to do is look at bright and dark scenes, streaming will show increased digital artifacts from more compression. So when you say you don't see the flaws, how could you, you down't own a 4K setup with a 4k BD Player. There is nothing subjective about what I am saying, neither can you really defend your comments.

If you want to say you really like something via 4K streaming thats OK, but stop trying to tell us all you don't see anything when you don't use anything to test that.

Ender14 congratulations on your new home, my main questions is your ISP and wiring in your house. Did you consider FTTH and Structured Cat5/6/7 Wiring, or are you just going to rely on Wireless? With all the Streaming options Bandwidth is going to be a big consideration for new homes.

If folks are snagging BD's from the Warner Archive sale -- you can do 5 for $50 with code:

WBAFF5

I watched The Old Guard with Charlize Theron on Netflix today in DV/Atmos. I thought it was great fun. It's essentially Highlander remixed, which is great. Now it's on to watch Greyhound on ATV+.

You are free to feel and believe anything that you choose, but as JohnAV pointed out you are in no position to compare a 4K disc to the corresponding 4K stream. If you can't do the comparison, you don't have an opinion. You are instead making an assumption.

You like his website; good for you. Show him some real love and give him a donation. He really, really needs it.

I think that he is just another full of himself "fevered ego", to quote the late comedian Bill Hicks, with an online that can't sustain itself without his incessant begging for money. He has a penchant for being melodramatic and for stating the obvious.

Buy more discs, indeed. His crusading advice will surely reverse a decade of declining sales. People who don't buy discs will certainly do so now and those that already do will buy even more because the great Bill Hunt has issued a call to arms! Me thinks he over estimates his market influence.

I afford him the same respect that I give to most random youtube reviewers. In other words, none.

I've been reading him for over 20 years and have never seen a mention of money. But you seem to have your opinion set. I trust him more than someone who fits Einstein's definition of insanity by posting the same arguments every day and fighting with the same people in this thread

You play in this sandbox yourself so the diagnosis fits you as well as anyone on these forums. Neither you nor Bill Hunt are exactly wellsprings of original thought, either. This thread has had 1.296 million views and I bet ol' Bill Hunt would kill for a fraction of that much readership now as his website increasingly slips into irrelevance; think of the pockets that he could try to pick alone? Unlike Bill Hunt, I do not need your trust or your money.

If you haven't read of his constant requests for money, you must be skipping over much of his uninspired dreck, also. I am not alone in my criticism of him or of his endless mooching.

A reader for over 20 years, huh, and you never saw Bill Hunt ask for money to support his website? Look a little harder this time, Einstein, and wear your Coke bottle glasses this time:

https://thedigitalbits.com/back-the-bits/

I give you credit, though, for finally sticking around and defending your position. Customarily, you just do drive-by snark posting one snide comment and then disappearing for weeks to months.

Funny how a moment ago you asserted what a dedicated longtime reader you were of The Digital Conniption Fit and that you had never seen Bill Hunt request money. Now, you have back pedaled claiming instead that you must tune-out such begging. Would you like some butter and syrup with all that waffling?

"Disappear" doesn't mean that you left. You just don't post in this thread for awhile choosing to instead. You make a quick sarcastic comment and then you hide and wait for a reaction. You must monitor this thread because you always return. Why would you keep coming back if you did not enjoy your time spent here? Returning to a place that you dislike over and over would be kind of after all.

You are in 8th place for the most prolific poster in this thread, by the way, and no one has signed you to a book deal after reading your original scintillating comments, either.

You must secretly like my being here "every day" beating that "dead horse" because here you are AND engaging with me...again. You are a longtime fan whether you'll admit it or not.

And I'll never ask you for a solitary cent; I give of myself freely.

It really seems to bother some people that this thread is still going strongly. It’s became a small community now and it’s only getting stronger as people’s passion for disc gets stronger.
It’s also a source for genuine good information also with some very technically minded posters.
Maybe Flyry is pining for a sense of belonging? After all, it must be dizzying trying to keep up with which streaming titles have disappeared this week or which studio has censored what content.

Absolutely right. I like to read and learn about technology, and despite the fact that I contribute nothing to the thread in terms of technical information, I enjoy reading the posts. When you reach my age (just a little north of 50 ), it's slightly harder to keep up with the pace of technology and to absorb knowledge.

It’s the truth. People like you make this forum worthwhile and just a generally more pleasant place.

That’s what I remind myself of (the good folk in this thread) when SCLee is creating his tenth account to attack disc lovers.

Thanks Steedeel. I just remembered you mentioned to me the film Come and See from Criterion, and I've spotted it on Amazon USA for $27.99. I'm really tempted to get it as it sounds very good, and it'll probably be my first dip into Russian cinema.

I would have bought the Criterion edition of War of the Worlds too if it wasn't region locked. That's why I've bought the Aussie edition instead, which is region-free. A real classic 50's sci-fi, and looking forward to receiving it.
