It is not an opinion that the image has an egregious amount of Edge Enhancement and Digital Noise Reduction, as well as boosted contrast. These are facts.

Now if you like those things, that's all well and good. You are free to have that opinion.

It is definitely an opinion as to which is better. As far as which is more ACCURATE that would absolutely be fact. Just like some people truly believe dynamic or vivid mode on their sets look best even though it is the most inaccurate representation of the film. To say dynamic mode is the worst (relative to the intended representation of the film) is not opinion any longer, it is fact.

After seeing all of those comparison pictures, all I have to say is WTF were they thinking changing the color scheme of the entire movie?! I knew it look bad, but I never knew how horrible the color scheme was when you compare and look closely at the comparison. The Theatrical images looks so much more natural and warmer. It just look so much easier on the eyes. If you can't see the problems then you must be blind.

Thanks for the comparison, btw.

The trailer has the jaundiced look of the characters. It has quite a Red One look to it. The skin tone of the theatrical looks natural but it lacks detail.

Even the cap I took of the IMAX bit with Bats in the wreckage has black crush. The IAMX scenes don't look as good as people say they do, I think.

Are we sure the trailers have the correct color timing? Not saying the transfer doesn't have problems but most trailers aren't completely correct to the final print when trailers get released. Just saying....

The image quality in the trailers is not superior to Blu-ray, but without all the ugly sharpening it looks much more natural and film like.

Contrast is way over the top also in IMAX shots. Look at Alfred reading Rachel's letter, it's so annoyingly dark.

It still looks much better than the final Blu-ray master and is much more accurate to all of Nolan and Oscar Winner Wally Pfister's other work.

I personally prefer the Begins Blu to The Dark Knight Blu because mild DNR is not nearly as distracting as overcooked colours and EE to me.

I don't know about everyone else, but when I saw the movie in theater the color scheme was much closer to the theatrical images than the bluray's. I remember the warmer color in the theater. Now I wish they go back and remaster the bluray again in the future.

The bolded part is the only thing that will get me to buy that Ultimate Edition set.

The fact for The Dark Knight Rises they did the IMAX and 35mm elements separately...gives me hope they "saw the light" and went back and did The Dark Knight properly for next year's Ultimate Edition set. Batman Begins is also too soft and was part of the whole Microsoft/HD-DVD "lets see how low we can get the VC-1 bitrate" stupidity of the format war. I believe at least two insiders confirmed Batman Begins was compromised, and one of those insiders even said that WB considered redoing Batman Begins as far back a late 2007/early 2008 for Blu. Alas, it was not meant to be. BUT, this shows me they know they can do better...one can only hope...

I agree, I remember watching the Blu and noticing a huge difference right away. It is also worth noting I saw TDK many time through its theatrical run.

Like you, that's why I'm holding off. Granted, I'm buying the UCE next year anyway because I want whatever new special features they're going to add to the set but secretly, I hope they go back and remaster the two previous films.

I don't have a problem with the image for Begins and Knight but I know they can be better.

I think the UCE will be worth buying regardless of the remastering but it sure would be nice for people like myself who are going to agonizing over not getting the release on December 4th.

I'm all about saving money...

Just to be clear, I AM getting the Best Buy Steelbook of The Dark Knight Rises on 12/4/12. I can't wait til next year's Ultimate Edition set to get that movie.

What I was saying is I have ZERO interest in next years Ultimate Edition Trilogy UNLESS it includes new transfers of Begins and TDK.

More than likely, they won't have new transfers. If 4K in the home because a realistic reality, that's when you'll see the new transfers. Either that or on an anniversary date.

I'm confident about the anniversary date because look at what WB does to their premium catalog titles of serious importance. Whenever there's an anniversary, WB seems to go back to the well.

In the future, Nolan's Batman and Harry Potter will be like what WB does with Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, etc....

35 mm scenes are ugly as hell. Halos are in EVERY shot, sharpening is awful.

Trailers looks great because they came from 4K Digital Intermediate.
Th 35 mm screenshot looks nearly like the first run of Gangs of New York. I guess on small tvs and with no point of comparison I could see how someone might say it looks good, but upon examination it really doesn't look good. I expect more from blu-rays, and frankly I expect more from Nolan. What good is promoting film, and swearing by it if he allows the release of a substandard blu-ray. Poor representation of the format. Anyways, I'm hopeful for a new transfer for TDK, and maybe BB if they feel inclined to give us one of those as well. Otherwise I won't be rebuying the films on blu-ray.

I ain't holding my breath either, but you never know. It's nice to hope until they actually release it.

Honestly, they're probably going to redo them one day. Personally, I think these films are just as important as Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, and Ben Hur for WB's library. This is why I know, one day, they're going to get the treatment that those films have gotten over the years. The same goes for Potter.

The only question is when.

Yeah, but there is difference between 50-year old movies that needs to be restored and remastered and new films.

Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, etc. Blu-rays should be the best possible quality from the very first release.

Just look at Iron Man and TDK, they're from the same year, and the difference between image quality of Iron Man and TDK's 35 mm scenes is simply dramatic.
