Were you able to pre-order a copy of the 4K edition via A24 a few weeks ago? It should start shipping out next week.

“Consumers have become much more receptive to different price points,” adds Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s senior EVP of worldwide marketing Lexine Wong. “They realize not everything’s on Netflix, and it’s worth it to them to pay a transactional amount for something they really want to watch. They really have embraced all the ways to consume digital video.”

That includes the physical disc. “We are encouraged by the resilience,” Spivak says. “When you think of the structural impediments, stores being closed, online ordering taking longer to fulfill — consumers who love the physical disc are persevering and that business is holding up quite well.”

Studios were fortunate that two of the biggest retail sellers of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, Walmart and Target, were able to remain open throughout the pandemic because they also sell groceries and thus were deemed “essential” businesses. Alanna Powers, SVP of brand marketing, catalog, at Paramount Home Entertainment, says studio marketers have already met with Walmart to discuss fourth-quarter plans, with a focus on catalog.

I haven't made a decision about whether I will order that or not as I haven't even watched my blu-ray copy yet. It would be nice to read a review first, too, and the opinions of our fellow forum members.

The Old Guard
Made for the big screen ended up on Netflix. (HD HDR/DV) 81% Tomatometer 74% audience.

In the guise of John Wick, Atomic Blond comes a decent action film. Using the girl who is new to hear the origins more than adequately explains the background and history of the individuals. Nice use of historical events. Good use of music, audio effects.

Say Wendell are you calling out the people that prefer Streaming? Anyway here is a question on Sound & Vision - "Can a TV's Built-in Apps Stream True 4K?" The answer is yes it's true 4K, and there is an added question about Hardwired Ethernet vs WiFi. They said with the latest Router setup properly you should have no problem. I still think if you can Hardwire that's the best way to go for full consistent Bandwidth.

You being hyper sensitive now? Got a chip on your shoulder?

Wendell streams content himself and he has spent far more money on streaming hardware than you have. He does not prefer it, but he has invested more in streaming than you ever will.

4K alone refers to simple resolution and we have all known for many years that streaming can deliver 4K resolution. It just also happens to deliver every kind of compression artifact known to exist along with lackluster lossy audio. A 4K stream whose bitrates average around 25 Mbps, and that peak near 30 Mbps, can not favorably compare to a 4K disc that can average over 80 Mbps and that can peak as high as 144 Mbps.

You have never made this direct comparison, so of course you do not know any better. Not that that will stop you from rendering an opinion.

We can each decide for ourselves if we need to use a wired connection to stream movies. A wireless connection can do just as good of a job as a wired one if there is no signal interference and if there was signal interference we would not use wireless. See how that works? I receive the exact same results whether I stream movies over my wired, or my wireless, networks.

Same old, same old. Nowhere near the top offerings like John Wick, and just cliched, me too dross. Netflix really need to do better. Watched this at friends as I don’t have Netflix. For the record, she thought it was poor too.

Only watched about the first 15 minutes of this one and stopped. IMHO, made on the cheap with mostly handheld cameras. For me, Atomic Blonde >> than Old Guard. YMMV!

Just poking a little fun.

Streaming by device type here. I believe Roku is now claiming > 40% of the streaming hardware (builtin and standalone) market.

I loved Atomic Blonde. Maybe that is why I was hoping for this to be halfway decent.

Do anyone know how much it cost to press UHD discs (2500-5000)?

IDMB Technical details

Runtime 2 hr 5 min (125 min)
Color Color
Aspect Ratio 2.39 : 1
Camera
Arri Alexa 65, Hasselblad Prime DNA Lenses
Arri Alexa LF
Arri Alexa Mini LF

Laboratory EFILM Digital Laboratories, Hollywood (CA), USA (picture finishing)
Negative Format Codex

Cinematographic Process ARRIRAW (6.5K) (source format)
Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format)
Printed Film Format Video (UHD)

FYI
How much does an ARRI Alexa 65 cost?
  • The ARRI ALEXA LF Large Format Camera Basic Set is a whopping $98,200 USD.
  • The ARRI ALEXA LF Camera Pro Set with 1TB SXR Capture Drive is $122,700 USD
  • The ARRI ALEXA LF Camera Pro Set with 2TB SXR Capture Drive is $128,900 USD, and the ARRI ALEXA LF Camera Pro Set with 256GB SxS PRO+ Memory Card is $112,300 USD

Budget was $70 Million. What can one say you really didn't watch it through its length to see how it progressed. Perhaps you need to skip forward a bit and see the actual plot then assuming what it was about?

It is, watch it, you be the judge. The later action where the CEO kidnapped them and the plot then on is pretty decent. All movies can be a bit repetitive if you watched so many.

I don't know if I loved it, but it was better than this Movie. I still haven't finished it, I'm not into Superheroes. Charlize Theron is a good actress, but I couldn't make it all the way through on this Movie.
