By the way, I love Opera. I'm going to have to check out Katherine Jenkins. Can't say I've heard her. That name sure sounds familiar though.
What terrible timing, of all the days. Congrats on 15 years though.

I'm not really into opera myself, but she seems to put a "modern" spin on her songs that I really enjoy. I would say about 75% of her songs falls outside the genre, so I'm sure that helps as well.

Oliver, did you see the dialog in the Pair-0-dimes thread.... some guy that is a dealer was talking about how he is a Pair-0-dimes 4 life owner and that the Studio 100s are better then any speaker hes heard below $6K

I asked him if he had heard the Dynaudio Focus 220 II or the Totem Hawks or Forests, OF course he hadn't.... I know he's a dealer and an owner, but really to think there isn't anything better below $6k is assinine.... I asked Rhett what he thought and he said the Studio 100s sound like they are in a cave compared to the Focus series.... I laughed...

Steve, if you could get the Focus 220 and the Hawks for the same price, which would you choose?

As far as Paradigm Studio 100s being the best speakers under $6k, I think that's laughable. First, best for who? Everyone?

While I think they are good HT speakers, I don't like Paradigm for music at all. Of course you can say they are better than entry level speakers, no one will disagree with him there, but for $6k you can get some really good speakers.

Anyway, I'll head over there and read through the debate.

Serious well he doesn't know the dealer where I go cause I can put up the 4000$ Forest against the Studio 100 anytime and it sure will sound better. The dealer I go to sells both lol and he said it himself.

The Sttaf at 1900$ sounds better than the Studio 60. I mean come on there are plenty more speakers unde 6k out there, if you want to fill a large room yes the Studio 100 are fantastic are very dynamic and the new line of V5 is much improved but does not sound anywhere like a Forest for sure.

I guess our fellow owner has alot of listening to do before he can tell they are the best speakers below 6k. He he said they are the best he's heard right? So really he has not heard anthing yet.

I can also put up a pair of bookshelf Mani 2 at 5500$ againts his Studios 100 and see how he would feel about that dual 6.5 incher woofer of the Mani that goes as low as 29hz

Anyhow I'm not a Paradigm hater but it's quite a statement and hell if that's all he heard, that's all he heard.

I would not even be afraid to compare the sound of the Rainmaker at 1000$ agaist the Studio 60 costing more than double the price.

The way Steve described the sound of the Focus I think he would take the Focus 220 and so do I but if we talk about the Forest I would have to make serious auditioning.

well the Focus 220s ($3600)are about $1000 more in price, but if I could get them for the same price AND I had the money... I would get the Dynaudios. Understand that Dynaudios lowest priced speaker(bookshelf) the Excite X12 is $1200, which is the same price as Totems entry tower.... also, the entry Dyn tower the Excite X32 is $2800, which is still more expensive then the Hawks($2600), totems 3rd tower speaker. The Studio 100s are about $3k from what I have heard.

Now since I haven't heard either speaker, I will tell you what I can. In talking with the Dealer, Rhett and the reviews I have read, the Focus 220, 140, and 110s all get the highest reviews for a speaker that is in their price range, also, their ability to reveal everything in the audio mixes, even from their 110 bookshelf speaker sets them apart from so many other speakers..... The Hawks I have read are also very nice, as is the rainmaker bookshelfs, which is why oliver and I are considering them.

However if I was to be able to pick, then I would get the Dyns. My dealer when I wanted to hear the totems, he said they are great, when I asked about the Dyns, he said they are $ for $ the best and most coherent speaker he has.

My mistake, I thought you had heard the Focus line before. I knew when I asked that I wasn't comparing apples to apples, but I was curious which you thought was best.

What have you heard from Totem and Dynaudio?

I sent my local Totem dealer an email requesting a demo, so hopefully that will be next week. As far as listening to Dynaudio, I'll be looking at day trip to listen to them, so I'll have to figure out a good day to go, maybe in a couple weeks.

This is why I would compare them to the Forest they are about that price, they are 4k in Canada I would think they are about 3600 3700$ in the US and I would have to make serious auditioning in this case to really choose between the 2.
But the Focus 220 over the Hawk Hands down by the way you describe the Focus 220 although the Hawk is an amzing speaker.

Justin if you have 4k to put on a pair try the Forest.

And don't count the Sttaf out of the equation I like them better than the hawk but it's just me.

Not because they are 1800$ does not mean they don't sound as good as the Hawk.

Dynaudios Special 25 Bookshelf speaker cost $5200, I will gaurantee that they will crush the Pair-0-dime 100s, it goes to 25hz, even tho rated to about 37 hz, test tones go to 25.... read the review.

Steve FYI Forrest is Using and ATi Driver very much alike the Dyns but not a Dynaudio like your dealer made you believe.

It's Canadian made also has a 3 inch voice coil but it uses 12 screws vs 6 on Dyns.

HEHE both of those 2 bookshelves would put the 100 apart.

Mani is the little cousin of the Wind and can be measured almost as low as 20hz.

Complete insanity, who said I needed a sub?

I have heard the Totem Arros, Sttafs and the Dyn Excites X16s, I want to go back to hear more.....

Here is a review of the focus in a HT aplication.... and an except about the $1500 Focus 110 bookshelf.

This, of course, begs the question, does one really need beautiful $1,400 monitors that are good enough to be excellent main speakers for most people to hear some incidental crowd noise in busy scenes?
This review for the HT setup also uses the 140 bookshelfs and the reviewer substitutes the 140s for the 220s and doesn't even look back at the towers....

Yup also Rainmaker does more that holding it's own against the Sttaf you feel as if you were listening to greattower speakers. It's unbelievable.

I won't have $4000, but I'd still like to hear them. My goal this summer is to listen to as many speakers as I can and hopefully have something by the end of the year, at the latest.
