Is this thread specific to 'The Future of Home Video' or something else?

Not to put too fine a point on it, if you have nothing of substance to add specific to the thread title, take it to the general forum.

Perhaps we need a mod to come and clear/clean this up once and for all.

It would take several bedrooms worth to get one in 4K size.

I would have another serious problem with it, a center channel speaker at ear level and on the same horizontal acoustic plane with L/R speakers will not be possible with this display. Its always something!!

You rarely add anything of substance; why don't you relocate to the general forum? You're the only one complaining here.

Who are you to decide what posts are of substance, anyways? Also, it is not your place to tell anyone what to do or where to go. Get over yourself, you are no one's boss. Your ego and arrogance are without equal.

All threads occasionally venture into off topic areas. They are usually of short duration, often humorous, and many find them to be interesting. If I could stomach rereading your posts, I bet I could find some examples of you being off topic.

We have mods aplenty; we don't need you as a vigilante thread cop, but I have no doubt that you would excel as a snitch.

In my opinion, the thread The Future of Home Video' would be better served without a gatekeeper setting up shop and preventing an open discussion of the thread topic.

Especially a gatekeeper whose one-trick opinion is that nothing will change and everything will be the same.

As previously shared, you are free to post whatever you and one or two others find amusing, e.g., your pants, in the general forum.

If you don't agree, just let me know, and we can resolve accordingly.

Forgot to mention in another response, one thing I like about the Shield Pro is the ability to use a keyboard and mouse. It has two USB ports that can be used but I have a USB IR receiver plugged into one and a FLIRC in the other. It also does Bluetooth so I have this keyboard paired with it. Makes searching, signing in, etc. much easier than using the remote.

I am no gatekeeper and I have not prevented anyone from doing anything. Unlike you, I do not tell people what they can post or where. I have only referenced forum rules when I felt that someone was venturing into taboo subjects such as politics. I do not enjoy seeing members getting banned.

I have also said numerous times in this thread that we need pro digital members to participate. No one should enjoy being in an echo chamber where everyone agrees about everything. That would bore me more than you do.

Further, there is no rule as to how often a member may post in a thread. Every thread has someone who posted more than anyone else. In this thread, I place second.

I have not said that "nothing will change"; I comment upon the decline in disc sales, and content in general, routinely and often. By definition, a decline is change.

The difference is that you see everything as heralding the death of physical media whereas I see physical media becoming more niche than it is now. I have it surviving, you insist that it is dying.

As to the "pants" comment that was a one off joke that I posted one time that generated a single reply to me days later to which I made one very brief reply. It was not a several pages long diversion from the thread topic that you seem to think it was.

I am free to post where I choose. I need no permission from the likes of you.

If you search this thread for the word "pants", you will find that it appears in 27 posts ... out of 25,453 total posts. The word was first used here back in 2017. There is no pantsdemic. We can all relax.

Cgpublic the wannabe moderator.

Let me say I don’t agree. And if you want to dis the moderators that should be taken to PMs. Report posts that are inappropriate but you don’t really have anything this time.

All digital meaning online only no in person convention.

I was hoping ISF would move to online classes but that hasn’t happened yet.

I hope 2.40:1 displays are the next Revolution.

Nothing wrong with using technology to safely showcase what is new in technology.

Well they could discuss the huge hit to Las Vegas economy with them being absent for the most part. The real question would be why utilize CES Digital medium for anything more than consumer trend discussions, maybe some industry keynotes? Without actual media performing show and tell with vendors it will be a very difficult for the remains of the show to showcase anything IMHO.

CEDIA 2020 which has been forced to close it show this September (Hall is being used to treat Covid 19 patients) should be indicative to how going digital will work out. CI based discussions with some product announcements possible.

Germany's IFA Berlin (03. - 05. September, 2020) is the show for all kinds of product announcements, even prototypes this year. see https://b2b.ifa-berlin.com

Some pages back there was some discussion about the Bill Hunt Kaleidescape article and Kaleidescape in particular.

I'm an owner. I have been using a system for ~18+ months after having been a physical media user and then having managed a large NAS of ripped content. So, well versed on both sides.

Kaleidescape won me over as I was simply tired of managing physical media and the server work that comes with DIY. I find myself watching more content and enjoying more content vs. tinkering with content nowadays. I was also drawn to logistical items like the higher bit rates vs. disc, their ability to update/improvement/fix titles, and the 370+ more titles on Kaleidescape in 4k than have been released on disc.

Seems like there were some misunderstandings/misconceptions earlier too. One being that you need your whole Kaleidescape library stored locally. You really don't.

A Strato 6TB is a complete Kaleidescape system that can serve all your needs regardless of how much content you own. Your store purchases are kept in your account, and you can freely download/redownload. A 6TB Strato will hold 100+ 4k titles. Plenty of space to store a lot of favorites, then you can just cycle content as you see fit. 100+ titles is plenty to choose from on any given night, and that Strato can download a 4k movie in ~45 minutes or less.

You only need a Terra and all the extra storage if you have a specific reason or because you want it and you have the money to buy it. So, don't discount using a Kaleidescape because of storage costs or limits.

I'm happy to answer questions here, so ask away. I run an Apple TV and a Kaleidescape system in my theater (plus gaming hardware). No more discs and no more ripping for me.

Agreed. IMO, they should rename CES to Mobile Phone and Car Audio show. For me, CEDIA and IFA have become much more important for home theater.
