I have a few like that, but it seems that if there was a genre that most suits bad movies, its post-apocalyptic action-adventures for the most part.

I like good and bad movies.

If I like a movie then I’m happy it exists.

I will watch, if possible, Greyhound if it makes it to disc. From the trailers it appears they used a lot of handheld, shaky cam. If true, it will get an early eject.

OT. Does anyone here use a long (>35 feet) fiber optic HDMI cable? If so, what brand and length?

Is there a better way to cinematically convey a sense of sea sickness?

This is on my Radar now, Kevin Costner The Postman. I think I saw it when it came out in 1997. It's available on Vudu to rent or buy. Thanks

If the $4 rental price was the purchase price, it might be worth considering. As a rental, I'd wait for it to be a "free with ads" selection. At 178 minutes you'll definitely get all the junk mail that you can eat.

^Into The White

rated 7.2 out of 10 at imdb.com for what that's worth.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1876277/

Blu-ray.com review gave it 3.5/ 5

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Into-.../68456/#Review

The file name pretty much gave the title away, which simply moving my mouse over the picture revealed as "InWhite.jpg." Either rename the file before you upload one to remove such clues or use an image from the web.

BJ's Wholesale Club Lossless Audio

Speaking of the future,

I understand that some people with “up to date” media systems have inadvertently eliminated the capability to playback any and all forms of lossless audio.

Such modern systems have lost a treasure of the recent past and a source of great joy.

I think we should all have a moment of silence for those who might forget what quality audio sounded like.

Can your system playback lossless audio? If you only watch steaming movies you won’t get it from movies. DVD and Blu Ray and UHD BD still feature lossless audio tracks if you can setup a system correctly to play them back unaltered. Lossless audio can be had from steaming but care still has to be taken in the setup of equipment.

A good guide to getting lossless audio from modern gear is here...

Universal Generates $229 Million Q2 Home Entertainment Revenue; Just $8 Million at the Box Office Due to Pandemic

Quote:
It’s a fiscal line item no Hollywood studio accountant ever wants to see. Universal Pictures generated just $8 million in 90 days at the box office in the second quarter (ended June 30). Instead of hundreds of millions in ticket sales, Universal, like all other studios, saw its legacy business model sidelined by the coronavirus pandemic — shuttering movie theaters and production globally.

Picking up the slack: Home entertainment and content licensing. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment generated $229 million in the quarter from sales of digital and packaged media titles — on par with the previous-year period. Content licensing generated $850 million in the period — up 18.5% from last year.

Top-selling discs in 2020 include Oscar winner 1917 with more than $24 million in combined DVD/Blu-ray Disc units sales, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw with $9.2 million, according to The-Numbers.com.

Total studio revenue topped $1.19 billion, down 18% from $1.45 billion last year.

Did not read the article in detail, assumed the intent was good but was amused to see:
Quote:
Despite their fragility, vinyl provided the best quality audio because it was analogue. The recordings were made on analogue systems, cut onto vinyl and played on analogue systems, not a 1 or 0 in sight. You are essentially recreating an exact copy of the original recorded audio.
Lots of errors in that quote, the best of the best of elliptical will produce at least 1% (-40 dB) harmonic distortion. The equalization for the velocity response of the cartridge is an RC circuit which means the response may be flat but the waveform will differ from the original. Vinyl has a fairly small dynamic range so a lot of compression/limiting has to be applied and in many cases compression/limiting is applied without engaging the 50 or 75 µsec pre-emphasis which means the spectral balance is skewed.

With no signal recorded on a virgin vinyl disk the signal to noise ratio is ≈ 60 to 65 dB, the best virgin analog tape played on the best decks (like an Ampex ATR-104) is ≈ 70 dB. A cheap 16 bit, 48 KHz digital system should do close to 94 dB and have almost ruler flat response.

I can easily create waveforms on a computer using the built-in digital audio systems that no vinyl system can reproduce. Off box.

I gave all my vinyl to my stepfather. I listen to lossless high res audio but not streaming. I have made FLAC files from blu Ray audio. Computers can generally play these. The only issue is making sure remains bit perfect.

(I like amazon high quality audio streaming but my family uses Apple Music and I take care of my own music)

Of course whenever I watch movies I double check it’s outputting the best audio track.

I don’t miss all the work around shenanigans with playing LPs with minimizing platter rumble, and those random ignition noise clicks. We recognize that vinyl playback for what it is. A unique snapshot of a time when where audio pushed some boundaries using reel to reel recording sessions. But digital got rid of so many limitations that were inherent to Vinyl playback and we all appreciate the improvements. One can only marvel about the journey from Vinyl to 4K UHD BD media now thinking back.

Even if you do everything right, vinyl degrades with each playing. Make ONE mistake handling vinyl, by you or by someone else in your home, and, oops, it is scratched and ruined. Vinyl warps pretty easily, too; it was fun watching the tonearm rise and fall as it surfed the "waves" of a warped disc. Anyone miss the delightful sound resulting from the tonearm being dropped accidentally and having it bounce and/or skate across the album? Even the most careful adult can find his albums ruined after kids get their grubby little hands on them.

I never liked having to clean vinyl and styli, either; a pain in the caboose. Remember removing the little clumps of dust that collected on the stylus? Vinyl is too fragile, requires too much routine maintenance, and it does not even sound better. "Snap, Crackle, & Pop" sounds nice only with Rice Krispies cereal, not with my music.

All I miss about vinyl is that many albums had awesome cover art.
