Ceiling height is 8’. When we had the house built 18 years ago, I asked about a deeper pour for the basement/ foundation, but is was about $20k, so I figured I could make do with standard. Speakers are in drywall anchors, and they are not going anywhere. I was looking for specific placement and angles, and I didn’t want to mess with trying to always hit a joist. All 15 height speakers are direct radiating and aimed at the sweet spot, so I had to get creative with some spacers for some locations to get it right. I did all the install in the room myself, but had help for the projector/lens as that works better with two people it seems.

Flash Gordon on 4K disc is a revelation! One of the best releases of the year, IMO.

Change is the air from digital bits.

Quote:
Finally, here’s some potentially very big news. Consider this Rumor Mill worthy, but over the last couple of days I’ve been hearing from industry sources that Disney has plans to create a more adult or “PG-13 and above” section of their Disney+ streaming service that would include content from Disney’s various studio labels that isn’t really suitable for kids. The section would require a pin code to access, thus keeping it gated from the kid-friendly content. But the idea is that this is where all of Disney’s new 20th Century content would go. It’s where some of their Touchstone content could go as well. Consider the Alien films, the Die Hard films, etc.

For a long time, it was assumed that all of that content would eventually end up on Hulu. But putting it on Disney+ instead actually makes a TON of sense and here’s why: Hulu only serves the US and Japan. Meanwhile, Disney+’s global reach extends to Australia, Austria, Canada, Channel Islands, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States. So this move would turbo-charge direct access to a large international customer base for all of Disney’s key studio brands.

This hasn’t been officially announced yet, but—if true—we expect it to be in the weeks ahead. It’s definitely something to keep your eyes on.

This contradicts reports I read that the adult stuff would be on a separate service under their ‘Star’ brand. It was to be rolled out to international customers but not the USA.

A suggestion, if you make a post about streaming it would help if you identify the type of streaming you are referring too. Example Brian posted:

IMO, the major source of this confusion comes from NPD VideoScan and DEG in their reference to Home Entertainment spend. They talk in terms of physical and digital, with digital they include SVOD but omit linear pay TV. Why include one form of pay TV (SVOD) and omit the other (linear pay TV)!!

For many years weekly data has been complied on physical sales dollars but nothing is released about EST sales dollars. Wonder why that is? If you know a source then post here.

No - Brian was referring to SVOD. He has posted his disdain numerous times for Disney+ and other SVOD services in numerous threads where the subject matter is streaming (SVOD). The fact that he also doesn't like PVOD is also transparent in his postings.

Well,

If I could clarify a bit of what I meant.

I think I feel like streaming can’t qualify for being “the future” when it doesn’t even meet the current level of quality available in home video. For example, if you buy an AVR it’s going to support lossless audio which may make it to steaming someday or maybe it won’t.

Streaming can’t compare to the quality of physical media and that may not matter in the long run because some people voting with dollars don’t seem to mind when quality is lost for convenience.

When it comes to reading and analysis of home video sales data and figures that’s something I never do and Lee never stops doing so if it comes to that he’s better trusted.

Which is a pretty fair stance considering he is a member of a Blu-ray collector’s forum.

The general public isn't interested in high quality audio or video. This isn't a surprise to anyone. They want choice, convivence and low price and streaming answers all three.

I would venture to say that many BD collectors here also have streaming services. Brian is just a fanatic about physical media.

Well, we shouldn’t generalise. Some people demand great audio but are not bothered about PQ. Others want good PQ but are not bothered about audio. There are grey areas even in the general public.
