The numbers do not speak for ANYTHING. Blu-ray is a hit based format, we have no new releases and haven’t done since March. Why is this so difficult to understand? Or are you trolling posting the same news across several different threads?

The disc market includes DVD not just BD or UHD-BD. You seem to be forgetting this fact. And DVD has not been affected all that much: approx. down 10%.

No trolling on my part - just setting the record straight while you try to plug all the holes in the physical media dike.

Those are the highest growth numbers, in the second quarter, for EST and VOD that I have ever seen by far. EST up 57.25%!

On the other hand, physical media sales were only down 11.11%, which is less of a decline than in many pre-pandemic quarters. Considering there were almost no brand new movies released in the second quarter, this decline is much less than I expected to see as disc sales have always been directly related to new hit titles being released and to box office performance- which is essentially non-existent this year.

Which they have been told but Lee and AVS Commenter will still spread their message of discs dying.

Physical media sales are being propped up by DVD which does not depend solely on new blockbuster movies for it's sales like BD does.

I really hate when people put words in my mouth I never said.

Please find a post where I have said discs are "dying." All I have ever said is disc is declining. BIG difference.

I also wanted to comment about this option to watch a movie within a video game. It strikes me as truly bizarre and it is not an option that I will ever choose. At the same time, I do not see this option as any kind of a threat to how I prefer to watch movies.

I bought a big TV to maximize my viewing area and not to parcel it out to part video game and part movie. To me, this is little more than a new version of the picture in picture option, which I almost never used outside of watching a sports event...and you probably can guess how often I watch sports.

I still think we will see a release of American Horror Story 1984 on blu-ray overseas timed to correspond with the premier of the next season...if there is a next season. As with other shows, season releases on blu-ray often coincide with the premier of the latest season. We can thank the pandemic for causing the delay to this and to many other shows.

I should have stated that blu-ray and 4K sales are hit dependent; DVD is far less dependent on new hits, but it also has the advantage of having more titles released upon the format.

For the record, I can not recall you ever once saying that discs were "dying." You report on the data and that data shows what it shows.

Imo, you are picking a freak year to push your opinion when it’s a nonsense. You can’t expect Blu-Ray to thrive in our current situation.

Like I said, wait until next year.

It is weird. But so are modern kids lol. It’s the social pull. Some were even throwing tomatoes at the screen when bored.

What I do see it as is another way to monetise film. The gaming studios will be paying a great deal of attention to how this pans out.

I finished watching Twin Peaks The Limited Event Series. If I said that I fully understood what I watched then I would be lying, but I was fully entertained.

It's what I love about David Lynch; you spend a few hours watching his creative works and then you can spend days upon days pondering wtf you just saw.

An article appeared in the New York Times on Aug. 17th which underscores what I HATE most about digital distribution, particularly with subscription streaming. The article discuss the removal of content from such "services" due to self-censorship.

What Actually Happens When a TV Episode Gets Pulled?

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/a...set%20managers.

From the article:

"In June alone, episodes of acclaimed comedies like “30 Rock,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Scrubs” were removed from Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, each for scenes featuring white characters wearing blackface; five episodes of “South Park” that depict the Prophet Muhammad were withheld from HBO Max by Comedy Central’s parent company, Viacom."

This is why streaming sucks and why it will always suck.
