I have and while they do appear incredible (especially the D2v), they are also out of my price range. Which is why I'm keeping an eye on their upcoming receivers, much more in my price range.

I wish I could afford the P 5 but it's 5k $.

Way over budget in my case.

yeah, I am thinking of getting an Anthem MX500 AVR... all the research I have been doing points to that as my receiver... I just want to hear some pro reviews.

In the digm thread, I was shot at by Ryan Peddle for recommending other speakers Like totem, focal, and Dynaudio.... I think if you are about to drop $1300 on a pair of towers, there are a lot of speaker you need to hear at first.....

its harder with the ones that are trying to spend $500 on speakers... you have only so much you can suggest...

however I find it hard to believe that people will spend $2500 on a TV and $500 on a BDP, and then only want to spend $1000 on a receiver and a set of 5.1 speakers? I would rather spend $1400 on a TV, $300 on a BDP and then $4000 on speaker and a receiver. JMO
Amen!!!!

You've got most of them listed - you should be able to find a nice system among those. Depending on where you are at, if you can - listen to others such as Spendor, Audio Note, Sonus Fiber/Sumkio (they are all in the camp with Vienna Acoustics), Vandersteen, Thiel, and Von Schweikert. Also try the used market - you can find some audio gems that are selling next to nothing! Speakers if taken care of properly can last a very long time (most of my speakers were manufactured in the 80's my Def Techs in the early 90's - you can truly get some outstanding speakers on the used market)!

As am I, the MRX500 sounds like a real winner to me. My only wish is that it had 5.1 or 7.1 analog inputs, but that's a minor complaint.

That would be a no go for me as I need it for my DVD-48 to listen to SACD

Thanks Rich.

A quick search shows that their is a dealer for Sonus Fiber and Vandersteen in Cleveland and Cincinnati, so those will require a weekend trip. The dealer that carries Thiel is the same as the Dynaudio dealer I'll be going to in a couple of weeks, so I listen to them then. Everything else seems hard to come by in Ohio, but I'll keep my eyes out.

Sounds like you need to step up to one of their pre/pros then.

Oh, such bad luck. Or, is it?

Look at the bright side. Since things happen for a reason, accept your destiny and be happy with the C-300s. They

You certain have a fine pre/pro and fine external power amps. That's just what you need for the C-300s. Those along with the C-C100 center are not very efficient speakers. They need a lot of power to sound their best especially if you like to watch movies at higher sound levels -20 db to -15 db below reference level. What berated the C-series, IMO, was that people also bought entry level AVRs to drive them. I bought a mid level AVR and found out the same thing. After setting it up as a pre/pro and connecting external power amps, it made a world of difference. It brought a big WOW! Bravo!, from my family.

I have found that the longer I hang on to my C-300s, the more I want to keep them, and the more I appreciate them. I have no intention of replacing them for a very long time to come. Of course, like most every one else I get the bug to upgrade my speakers. There's always something better though and it never ends. Of course then I think, there's always something better to do with my money, and then the bug gets squashed.

Rwo.

Very true. I find that even tho I want to get Totems or Dynaudio speakers, that its hard to part with the Energys. Plus I, like you, have other places that $$ has to go to. Although, I will be getting Totems or Dyns one day, that may be a few years down the line.

Right now I want to get a better receiver.... I am really leaning towards the New Anthem MRX500, I think that will power my Energy C-300s a lot better then my Sony. And give me the pieces I think I may be missing.

Hey, don't knock the C-300s, they are very good speakers, but they probably do have a little less detail, however they will have a larger sound stage... I think you will really like the C-300s.... when i first heard them, I knew I wasn't buying Polk or B&W, not for the price I paid on the Energys($250 for the pair).

If the Anthem MRX500 has a true, real 100 x 7 full power bandwidth, 0.01% THD wpc power amp with a hefty, heavy high current power supply that can deliver it, like my 100 wpc (8 ohm) 200 wpc (4 ohm) Adcoms, then you are all set. But not everyone realizes that they really need a good AVR like that when they buy Energy Speakers. I used to like Yamaha AVRs but only one model meets my specs anymore and I don't care to pay $2500 for it. My mid level V663 + Adcom power amps are probably even better anyway except of course without all the bell and whistles of the higher end expensive Yamaha.

Instead of upgrading my speakers, I am more inclined to uprade my V663 with a dedicated pre/pro, use the external power amps that I have plus find two more Adcom GFA 545 II or get a couple of Emoitiva UPA-2s to drive my 4 surround channels. I may get the two extra stereo power amps first before getting the dedicated pre/pro, waiting for ones that are 3D ready actually.

I talked with the Anthem tech services people and asked them about the receiver, they still cannot disclose everything, but he did tell me the receiver is 4 ohm stable and will handle 8 ohm speakers very well, even the inefficient ones.

If the reviews come back poorly, then I will be looking to do the same thing as you and I will get a discontinued Yamaha 765 or 1065 and an Emotiva XPA-3. Then I will use that until I get new speakers. Either way I expect that they new setup will run me about $1200 plus I will need a new TV stand. So one way or the other I plan to get the Energys some much better power.

yamaha, adcom and energy are a great combination. i just replaced the energy w/ deftech in my situation...

i am now thinking about getting an adcom gcd-600 cd player for a future 2 channel set up, i love the vintage adcom stuff...it's cheap but is built very well and will last forever...

just the other day on my local craigslist someone was selling a gtp-400 pre-amp, gfa 545II, and a 5 channel gfa7000 w/ one channel not working all together for just $300! i have no cash after switching out speakers, but man i would have loved to have jumped all over that...

Anthem actually underrates their products seriously the P5 amp actually deliver even greater performance then what they state.

I'm sure it will be the same way with their receiver and may very well have as little distortion at rated power than what you think Rwo.

I can't wait to see their full specs.

I think those are fore different sources in 2.0 rig but does not semm to have the full 7.1 analog discrete channels unless it can be done using a certain combination of those analog inputs in some sort of config.
