Blade was well received and championed, but didnt have the same Black Power iconagraphy as Wakanda and its characters. It was a phenomenon and a first.

Other countries (or you) can scratch their heads, but there's a historical significance in terms of cinema's portrayals.

This is the thing that theaters are missing out on. Getting that other dollar.

Yeah....its hard. My mom like many other normies were swept up in the media phenomenon and great word of mouth. And she said the film just alright.

I think Spider-Man's last film had Normies lined-up due to its hype.

Its hard to generate that hype to reach non-superhero folks.
She could give damn about The Batman.

If Oprah was Amanda Waller in the Suicide Squad...she woulda lined up. She didnt for Will Smith.

I think Jack Nicolson add alot of hype as The Joker in Batman '89. Keaton wasnt that dude. But that Batman was true phenomenon.

Right marketing is about selling something to someone who does not want it.
It all has to line up at the right time. Theaters are not unique, and they are not going to be able to successfully capture that other dollar with every movie.

Most of Hughes' work is set in the Chicago metropolitan area. He is best known for his coming-of-age teen comedy films which often combined magic realism with honest depictions of suburban teenage life. Many of his most enduring characters from these years were written for Molly Ringwald, who was Hughes' muse.

People get really hung up on why a movie is important to cinema/culture, or why it shouldn't be important, and they try to quantify it with milestones like "First time X happened!" to be responded by the "Well actually..." crowd, when really the answer is usually what you said: It just resonated with people.

Star Wars wasn't the first space fantasy, but it resonated with people in a big way. So did Rocky, so did The Matrix, and yeah, so did Black Panther.
The people who try and put down Black Panther by saying "Blade was the first black superhero!" are completely missing the point.

There are so many factors involved with why people embrace some movies over others. Could be Snipes himself, or that people really liked Chadwick and the rest of the cast.

From what I recall, the reception to the first Blade was more mixed than positive, especially with the press.

Your cherry picking my statement without its context.

Snipes had cache amongst Black audiences, and folks represented.
I was responding to the poster that was perplexed that Black Panther was in his eyes was "first".

The press can have whatever opinions they had. It had a Trilogy.

Blade came out during a superhero dry spell and set up the foundation for the modern game. Im sick of explaining this. Real heads know the deal.

Agree I could not understand why people went mad on Black Panther at all. For me it's one of the worst Marvel films. As for Blade I like all three films but Blade II is my favourite.

Characters spend the first half of the film describing Michael Myers as unstoppable Satan+Thanos evil incarnate, then suddenly see a short fat frightened Wallace Shawn looking mofo, and are like "THAT'S HIM!!! EVIL DIES TONIGHT!!!"
