Great !
You have a . . . unique way of looking at that Brian.

Think of it this way: you put $1.00 in a saving account. 16 years later you have about $1.03.

I prefer my lottery ticket investment strategy. I spend $20 per month and I typically win $2.

As for micro povs, you are insistent upon comparing 2019 to 2003. That's a very specific and fixated pov. Had he saved that dollar in 2011, he would have made $1.39 in just 8 years.

For six years, 2011-16, total home entertainment spending hovered around $18 billion per year. In 2019, it was $25.167 billion. That's a hefty increase and each year in the comparison had the same expenditure options.

Give me a penny on the first day of a month. Then square it on day two and keep squaring it until the end of a month: 30 days.

So what you are saying is that from 2003 to 2011 the HE market fell approx. $6.5B and stayed there for 5 years. And then from 2016 to 2019 increased $7+ billion (love that SVOD revenue). Which is approx. where it was back in 2003.

We're going back . . . to the future!

Actually, it is far less now.

$24.5 billion in 2003, adjusted for inflation, would be $34.04 billion in 2019. Home entertainment spending has actually plummeted and is nowhere near the same as it was in 2003. $25.167 billion in 2019 is a 26.066% decrease from $34.04 billion.

And I am not the one "saying it"; the data is from the Digital Entertainment Group:

Agree 100% I never add inflation factor. To complicated for many here. Show them some numbers from 2003 and tell them they aren't equal to todays numbers and either they don't understand, or they argue I'm putting my thumb on the scale.

I think that most of us here can grasp the concept of inflation.

When comparing revenue from two different years that are 16 years apart factoring for inflation is essential otherwise the wrong conclusion will be drawn.

You mean like . . . does the 360 = $3.60?

Decimal points aren't my friends today, but this 360 reference is unknown to me. I associate that number with the Xbox 360. I still have a first edition model replete with the sidecar HD DVD drive. Somehow, I avoided the Red Ring Of Death that plagued so many of the early units.

I see that your TV resolution viewing distance chart was a big hit over in the other thread. I told you that the game that you were playing over there was called "Futile Pursuit"; no amount of evidence from any source will convince that one of anything.

When he questioned your use of 360 (he thought it meant $3.60 in reference to how cheap DVDs can be), I didn't think that was the reference. I thought it had to do with the Xbox 360. So I searched back through this thread and found your post: you were referencing the resolution of DVD. He didn't understand.

I think that you spoke too soon.

He never accepts any evidence from any source 'cuz he ALWAYS nose bedder. He will never cite a source himself because he IS the source of all knowledge. Don't ever expect to get the last word, either.

Looking at all his posts from a macro POV . . . I think he might have stopped at VHS. That's his experience level. All the rest is just talk and book knowledge.

He very much reminds me of a member who posts in the 3D threads: tripletopper.

..and those books came with crayons.

You will accomplish nothing with him. He will rebut you until the breaking of the world. If you ask him for any proof to support what he claims, he will tell you to look it up yourself.

LOL - hey - it killed an afternoon of which I had nothing to do anyways. I'm practicing being respectful to others here, even when I want to scream!
