Yeah you're all right. We should just have plain silver discs in a plain box to hold them. Who the hell would want anything nice or special for movies they love ???? What a fool I've been.

Totally agree, these movies look awesome on Blu and £70, £50 whatever, its a bargain.
Shall rush out and buy in store at lunch, its still £74.99 in HMV but hell yeah its Star Wars

No one is saying that. You seem incapable of looking at an argument objectively. I don't own the Star Wars Blu-rays, but as an objective bystander I fully understand why this is how it is. Your problem is is that when you are presented with an actual argument you balk and run away, or post these nonsensical responses. Comparing SW with LOTR-EE shows how this situation works, its nothing new, nor is it limited to Star Wars. To write off everyone who disagrees with your standpoint as brainwashed idiots that would buy anything with a Star Wars logo on is churlish and not the right way to go about things.

It seems that a good few are saying it’s SW on Blu you should buy it be grateful, its all about the movies etc. My point is that it is Star Wars and this set is not as good as you’d expect, when you consider other franchises released on blu. This is a standard set, you can see that other standard sets are priced around £20 for the same amount of movies.

Maybe you’d prefer to compare to Alien, another set that has done the rounds. A standard set with first class PQ, 4 movies 9 hours of extras directors cuts included etc £15. But if you were a huge fan of this you could have splashed out on an Alien head. I wouldn’t but it was nice that fans of these movies had that choice. Whether you like the Harry Potter comparison or not, fact is this is the first time the whole collection has been available in one set (ring any bells) Standard set £32 but if you are a big fan or collector a L.E box numbered to only 25000 in the UK. With glossy extras for £65. Shame SW didn’t offer that for their £65.

When people just accuse me of only being interested in the packaging, why shouldn’t I come on here and reply that is isn’t the case. Its the whole deal for the £67 when it was released (although that cover art is hideous IMO)

I just would have thought, comparing what other, lesser franchises have received for fans and collectors with their releases, why is this such great value £67/£50 ??. Oh but its Star Wars. Yeah it is and its a bog standard release.

Whether I buy it, don’t buy it etc makes no difference. This set is not befitting and is not well priced. I’m totally over posting on here about this, however, if you say I only want a book because HP had one or £50 now so go and buy its a bargain. You’re wrong, I’ve explained and enough people have come on here and moaned about the PQ etc.

You seem to misunderstand. Nobody is saying "be grateful for the films", but that the films are the most important part of any package, above packaging, above extras.

The Complete Saga set is not a standard set tho. It has THREE extra discs of material not available with the individual STANDARD trilogy sets.

The Alien box-set was not £15 upon release. It retailed for over £40. Again, in line with the SW box set.

It was actually an egg, but I see your point. (Basically, you'd have been happy to spend £100 on the SW saga, but only if it came inside of a giant JarJar bust. Without said head you won't touch it for less than £3).

To be fair, you don't really have much of a defence on that point, given that at least 80% of your posts mention the packaging. There are at least three mentions of it in the post that I'm replying to alone.

I outlined above why this point is wrong. Pricing is in line with the Alien box-set, and its not a "bog standard release", as it has three discs more than said standard release.

Has any film series with 6 or more films been released on Blu Ray together (all for the first time, not like Harry Potter which has had 5 films available on Blu Ray for 4 years)? and if so what were the comparative prices? And don't give me rubbish like Rocky or Alien. A series where all the films were big blockbuster hits?

I was going to as I wanted the book and soundtrack but funds are short (thanks to the Harry Potter Ultimate Editions) so I'll stick with the steelbook. Thankfully both the Soundtrack and book are available separately.

Nice there was something different available, for big fans of this though. Went S.B on this as well. Heard the moleskin diary thing will end up being a big collectors item though.

I bit the bullet and got it (I had vouchers) and the PQ of the first two is quite average. I'd forgotten how utterly AWFUL they were as films too. The third one though looks utterly fantastic and I actually really enjoyed the film itself.

Onto the original trilogy tonight. I've still never seen Empire!

At the end of the day its the film that counts. If there's a special version of the film that I really like and I can afford it, I'll buy it. If there isn't one available or I can't afford it I'll get the regular release. Either way, its the film I'm buying. Extras are just a way of getting more money out of you.

With T,T,S,S the only extras I wanted were the Soundtrack and the Book. I can get the steelbook (which has nicer packaging), the book and the soundtrack separately, and it'll probably cost less in the long run. So in the end, I get what I want and it doesn't cost as much as the studio would like.

And there was an extra with the Star Wars box set. The film cell and its cool. Many shops were also giving away their own extras.

Fair enough, I considered Jurrasic Park Tin, full of goodies and something of a special edition for fans. Bought Standard though, as you say its about the films.

Expect for Me, Star Wars, Jaws and Indiana Jones are my all time favourites and I just hope the latter two have releases where fans have an option to spend a little extra and get something exciting.
Saying that if Indiana Jones set comes out, misses a lot of the DVD extras and is nothing special, for say £50. I’ll moan a bit and wait for it to come down to £17.99.

I bought the tin and now I'm sorry I did. Its one of my all time favorites and its a bit rubbish over all.

I'm a big fan of The African Queen, so splashed out, much in the same way that big fans of the Star Wars series will have splashed out on the 9 disc Saga box-set, as opposed to the standard editions. You're complaining about choice; there was choice.

They did have an option tho; one with THREE EXTRA DISCS WORTH OF MATERIAL. What sort of a fan would rather have a tacky statue over THREE EXTRA DISCS WORTH OF MATERIAL?
