It just sounds as if Nolan doesn't want to make a digital transfer from the OCN. His prerogative, I guess.

It's not that he doesn't want to, he can't! Why?

Because his choice is to color-time the movie photochemically, so you can't scan the OCN because you would lose all your color-timing work...
You have to scan the Interpositive (IP) with the correct color-correction done by Pfister...

Well, they could always just replicate the analog color grading digitally. Which would be the sensible thing to do IMO, rather than throwing away half your sharpness and resolution even though 95% of your audience are going to see it in digital projection or a digitally blown up 70mm IMAX print anyway.
But the damage's been done already... I doubt WB are going to spend the money to re-scan a brand new film any time soon.

It seems you're criticizing Nolan's philosophy, which is entirely subjective. This is how he chooses to work.

You got it wrong! I love what he does! I love his classic approach to film-making!

Oh. It just seemed that you were frustrated that if he did things a different way, his discs on BD would yield even more impressive results.

I understand the problems of the Knight BD, even if I think it's an entirely watchable disc.

I don't understand the criticism already for this Rises BD. I think the transfer is striking.

Yes, from Best Buy.

I agree with you about this transfer, it's striking

The problem with TDK was they ruined it with digital filters because of the horrible DMR process done by IMAX; it doesn't seem to be the case this time (or maybe DMR was done better this time, 4 years later)

Unless WB was saving that for the Ultimate set being released next year? Although I highly doubt it, but one can dream.

People need to accept the fact that there are never going to be OCN scans of Nolan's movies, he simply wouldn't let them because it is against his principles of film-making (photochemical cinematography) that would get lost in the process..

I'm betting that WB/Nolan will go back and fix Knight in a few years. I don't think it's if anymore but when.
