Another D-VHS D-Theater title, The Haunting, coming to Blu-ray in October. Some DVD titles I have are finally coming to Blu-ray on September 15, pre-ordered for $9.99 each:
  • Uncommon Valor
  • The Sons of Katie Elder
  • Timeline
The Haunting on D-Theater will test your sub-woofers, hope the BD sound track is as good or better.

The two biggest errors on this forum by far.

However, there is a phrase that bugs me that some think is correct.

I always say “Couldn’t care less”, some believe it’s “Could care less”.

Surely if you could care less, it means that you care at least a tiny amount?
The word is not caught by auto spelling on the computer. It's one of those situations its not flagged if I accidently type loosing vs losing, but it catches looosing. I have to manually setup a rule for this.

The DTS dvd of the Haunting was definitely the bass champion back in the day. I can already see some folks in other threads up in arms if and when there is a new mix that doesn’t leave a trail of blown subs in its path.

Yes but when I say it I mean I’m willing to lower that amount

Still doesn’t make sense. ‘Could not’ is a definite. In other words, it’s not possible to care less.

That seems to work also.

I think either works.

I could care less about Mulan 2020. I care because Disney is trying to destroy what I love (UHD BD)

I will care less when I realize it’s not going to change anything.

Yeah, but that’s not the context in which I have seen it used. It is almost always used to state that person has zero interest in something. It simply doesn’t make sense.

It barely makes sense in your context.

Netflix Dynamically Adjusts Bitrates to Match 4K Content

Quote:
According to Netflix, the new process will enable it to reduce the average bitrate by 50% with no loss in image quality

LOS GATOS, Calif.—Netflix has developed algorithms that dynamically adjust the bitrate to match the content being streamed by viewers.

The idea is that if a viewer watches 4K or HDR content, the bitrate drops. The company describes this process as “optimized shot-based encodes” for 4K.

The blog gives an example of a 4K animation title episode, where a 640×480 encoding resolution is paired with a 4:3 PAR to achieve 16:9 DAR.

According to Netflix, the new process will enable it to reduce the average bitrate by 50% with no loss in image quality. It adds that viewers who have a limited bandwidth will also get a better image quality.

It also adds that the number of rebuffers per hour is expected to reduce by over 65%; while the reduced bitrate together with some Digital Rights Management (DRM) system improvements result in reducing the initial play delay by about 10%.

Netflix said it has started re-encoding the 4K titles in its catalog in order to generate the optimized streams and expects to complete the process in a couple of months. The streamer continues to work on applying similar optimizations to its HDR streams.

The blog goes into the process in much more detail.

I will stick with couldn’t. It’s the correct way and that doesn’t change because a phrase is misused so many times that it just becomes easier to accept it as equal meaning. That is absolute nonsense and just shows a lack of education as that linked article suggests.

That’s my stance and I feel strongly about it!

And some on here still believe quality might one day match disc!

If Netflix shaves anymore bitrates, actors are going to start disappearing.

My guess is that Netflix noticed the savings they were making while reducing bit rates in lockdown and are now going all out with their shaving tactics.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious when you simply just read the phrase what it means, but not to all. I see it misused constantly.

"Irregardless" is another one. Not a word. The word is "regardless".

And while we are on it, the word "guesstimate" is redundant, because an "estimate" IS a guess.

"Estimate" is usually used when a person has some qualifications, experience, or expertise that makes their "guess" more likely to be accurate. "Guesstimate" is used when the person is basically admitting that they have no expertise on a subject.

I guesstimated that my recent MRI would cost around $4000; the actual bill came to $10,352! I estimated that my power bill last month would be about $100; it was actually $103.80. I had experience in predicting the latter, thus the far better accuracy.
