Very true. Just look at DVD's, prices have decreased to below $10 in some cases. Which is why I open everything.

Dont get me wrong, I really like steelbooks and collect them as much as I can.
If I had more money, maybe I would leave some unopened as well, although i would know it would be wrong as as soon as smth new came out (better format) I would than want to have all my old movies in the new format steelbooks, which means losing lots of money.

I think a lot of people are forgetting the collectable aspect of SteelBooks. Not everyone keeps their SteelBooks sealed for the sole intention of selling on at a later date for profit.

Also, some films released in SteelBooks are inferior to their standard counterparts. I see no point in opening my French Kill Bill SteelBooks (forced subtitles are especially annoying when parts of the film subtitled in different languages already) when I can just enjoy the standard releases over here. They're cheap too, something like £8 each in a boxset. Hybrids are not an option because I don't like them; they remove the authenticity and completeness of a SteelBook in my opinion.

I unseal and watch most of mine unless I already own the standard release. I don't deem it necessary or even worthwile to open up my Sleeping Beauty SteelBook because I already own it in standard. The fact that my player isn't Region A compatible makes it even more pointless.

You should be thankful some people don't open their SteelBooks anyway, otherwise you might not be able to get that release you so desperately want in mint/sealed and untouched condition. Nothing beats brand new.

Back on to the topic, thank you for the picture Phil! I really hope the review quote isn't printed.

I have to agree with this Post 100%!!

The only sealed Steels I have are the rare few I have doubled up on (2012 from Australia and also from CA and the Iron Man Steels). I am highly considering doubling Kick-Ass as well. I don't even bother with Steels of Films that are locked to Region A, which is why I didn't get any of the Disneys...

But, BTT:

I'm also hoping that the quotes aren't printed, but as mentioned I will more than likely get both this one and the german one.....

I agree that 2012 Australian Steelbook is a rare one but I was unsuccessful in selling it at eBay even for 18 GBP.

I disagree! You can still order it and I would not know what is rare to this one.

Steelcase versions of Australia are rare....like The Dark Knight or Inglourious Basterds, but not 2012.

I have 3 OZ Steelbooks, not sure if they are considered rare:

1. Transporter 3
2. 2012
3. Knowing

If your Transporter 3 is the AU version, this is likely the most difficult to purchase nowadays.
I assume you know the real rare Steelbooks of nowadays?

Yeah for me! Getting Kick Ass from netflix tomorrow, on blu-ray, to hold me over until I get the steelbook. Still haven't seen it yet, so very excited!

Front cover has changed slightly, displaying "brilliant, thrilling..." at the bottom plus ratings and labels too.

Do you think that the bottom bit with the text will be a slipcover like District 9 had ?

Hopefully that text at the bottom is not printed, because I find distracting and ugly.

when do you think the new format will be coming? i dont see it any time soon as bluray seems to have enough storing capacity to last us a long time. unless you think bluray will soon kill off dvd like dvd did to vhs or companies choose to kill off bluray or there will be 3 formats to choose from... i dont really see it happening anytime soon

I just checked amazon.co.uk and the product image doesn't have the writing and the stars on the bottom cover. It's also not up for pre-order at the present time. Hmmmm.
