I'll pick this up to watch the animal cruelty censored version. I'm usually not into censoring anything....but just reading about the animal kills makes me think thats the way to go with this one. Glad its in its original form for people that can take it though. But I have a fear that just having that version in my possession will get the best of my curiosity one late night.

It's pretty sad. If you watch the uncut version, keep in mind that they did eat most of the animals they killed on screen. It wasn't only done for entertainment value.

I only ever watched the British DVD which was cut, but they still left in the killings of animals that were killed relatively quickly and eaten. What they cut was the scenes where it could be argued that unnecessary suffering was inflicted,by killing the animals slowly for maximum effect. I found even the cut version pretty horrific to watch.

I have no problem with gory films and even something like A Serbian Film didn't particularely affect me, but I draw the line at real cruelty inflicted. I'm not a huge fan of Cannibal Holocaust anyway. It's of curiosity value in the history of atrocity cinema, but there is not much about the film that would make me want to revisit it, even if it wasn't for the animal torture. When it comes to spaghetti horror I prefer the more stylish giallo and horror films by the likes of Argento, Bava and Fulci.

To be fair, its only one killing (the muskrat) which I will admit is kinda sad but thankfully very brief. None of the other animal killings bothered me even though the turtle was gross.
I'm surprisingly looking really forward to picking this up despite the fact with how unsettling I found this movie on the first watch, but I was 17 at the time and have seen quite a few other brutal movies since then.

Came to ask a question though, does diabolik ship before or for release date? I wanna buy it off them as $25 seems like a great pre-order price but might bite on it at this place here that usually stocks all their stuff a couple weeks in advance, but for a higher price.
I don't think I can wait for this one

Diabolik ship as soon as they receive stock, and in this case, that will most probably be before release date.

Personally, I'd argue that CH has a lot more genuine artistic merit than Salo, but Salo does have more dubious arthouse cred.

Well go ahead and argue then, because at the moment you are only making claims.

Is that artwork that you made or is it from another release of the film?

Dammit. I don't have much money at the moment, but I'm going to have to grab one of these when it's released. I actually prefer the censored slip. The reverse side is a bit too disturbing to look at all the time. I'm also relieved that this will apparently include a cut without the animal cruelty. I rather like the film, but I don't care to see those scenes again. I was fortunate enough to not see the infamous turtle scene the first time. I lucked out and timed it perfectly when I skipped the scene.

Does anyone know what the order is for their Box Office Spectaculars numbering? I thought Cannibal Holocaust would be 001 or 002. Are they continuing after the DVD sets and some will be assigned new numbers when they are upgraded? Or is there a completely new order and some unreleased titles will be given the earlier numbers?
