been wondering about this lately (honestly especially the past 3 days)because the past few months I have been reading the expanded universe adult novels. I am up to the 2nd Twrawn novel and really hope they dont use Thrawn because I am hating the Thrawn Trilogy so far. I am having to slog and skip through some if it I am finding it to be that horrible.
I honestly am kinda excited but I know they arent gonna get Hamill , Fisher or Ford to return and are probably gonna recast with completely wrong good lookers like Justin Bieber, Mila Kunis and Taylor Kitsch so I dunno. I say go for it but I am a bit wary.

I'm not a fan of Disney owning ESPN, ABC, Pixar, Marvel, AND Lucasfilm. I shudder to think about how bad the "new" Episode 7-9 films will counterfeit the Expanded Universe. And did they forget that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher are old and/or fat?

I personally think this is great news, there are a ton of talented people working on Star Wars RIGHT NOW, and I doubt Disney will take this lightly. Here's hoping for a kick ass Episode 7 I personally love the universe so im all for this.

Eh. The "Expanded Universe" is already pretty mediocre or downright terrible. I'll happily take some A-Level Canon stuff.

Also nice to see that they may be going off of Lucas' plot treatments for 7-9 as well. That's always good.

Yeah, maybe it's just the optimistic geek in me, but I keep thinking Disney is going to take this realllllllly seriously and find a way to get it right.

Harrison Ford looks pretty good for his age; most people should be so lucky. Mark Hamil could look a lot worse, too. And Hollywood makeup can do wonders; a nice, even complexion can make someone look years younger if they still have a half-decent physique. Carrie Fisher... well, I guess not everyone can be so lucky, heh.

Not that I'm saying they should bring back the cast, but just the fact the actors are now old certainly isn't a barrier to bringing back some if they actually had a well-written script that required it. They're too old to play young people, so have them play the characters in their later years. What would be so hard about that? Is our society so superficial now that we can't even tolerate watching an older person on-screen? Despite the many faults in Indy 4, I thought Ford did a pretty good job with it.

Well Pixar and Marvel have done well under Disney so I'll wait to hold judgement.

I'm cautiously optimistic. After the prequel trilogy I'm under the opinion that Star Wars works better when Lucas isn't directly controlling every aspect of the production-- that will be the case here.

I'm definitely interested to see where the they are planning to go with the new movies, and what time they will be placed in and who the characters will be. I wonder if any of them will be based on expanded universe novels/comics.

Of course, Disney believes that also. Why do you think Fantasia is still edited according to Disney's wishes.

And remember, Lucasfilm still exists. And just like with Marvel, Disney tends to be pretty hands off on stuff.

Just saw that on Bloomberg, and I was like Wtf?

After that, my thoughts were: who owns the rights on the previously released SW?
Well, with little doubt Lucasfilm prob ably retained all rights on Star Wars, with Fox being just a distributor.

My third thought: Wonder what Fox thinks about this? Maybe they think Avatar 2 - 3 will be the next Star Wars?

All in all, not sure what to think about this.
On one hand, I am thrilled to think that ep 7-9 will be made, but on the other hand ... Disney is capable of the best as well as the worst (Star Wars as a tween-sy show direct to video, featuring tinkerbell as a new alien race?)

George Lucas is going to be be pissed when he reads the small print of the contract and realizes that the 4 billion will be paid out in Disneyland Paris money.*

*Disneyland Paris money not legal tender anywhere.

I would say that today, that war just got a whole lot more interesting.

Forget a Star Wars ride...get ready for a Star Wars *land*, if not an entire SW Theme Park.
My thoughts exactly!

Who's talking about Avatar Land now? [crickets]

Get ready for a new theme park "The Star Wars Universe" opening before you know it.
