It doesn't, since you have to pay a sub you don't need PS+ but it does need to inform buyers that it's an online only game.

I think Detiny should have PlayStation Plus Required and Online Multiplayer Only on the box.

That was kinda my point - not saying I know what's going to happen but this is definitely uncharted territory for PS4.

Unless something else drops first, Destiny will be the first full-price, online-only, non-monthly fee, non-microtransaction game.

This was MAG back on PS3, but Plus wasn't required then. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if they come down either way on this one. It's a unique enough situation and a big enough game that along with PS+'s already high attach rate I could see them letting it slide to make it more of a system seller.

That's been the date for a while.

When the beta starts up is the big question.

I think it is an online game but you can play it solo if you want.

Quote:
Destiny developer Bungie has clarified that you'll be able to play through all of the game's story missions in single-player if you want.

"You aren't required or forced to play any story missions in Destiny as part of a co-op group," clarified Bungie community manager Eric "Urk" Osborne on NeoGAF.

Osborne's response comes after an interview with Bungie's Jason Jones on Game Informer, which led some people to believe that some of the shared-world shooter's story missions would require co-op play.

"You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign," said Jones, "which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary, but we’re going to give you this great player-progression on top of that, and we’re going to give you as many opportunities as we possibly can to expose you to other people, so that hopefully you’re drawn into some social experiences, because those are incredibly powerful and interesting, but we’re not going to force those on you."

Jones added that some of Destiny's end-game content, such as raids, could require co-op. "We describe it in a lot of ways as sloping the floor towards socialization, without putting a requirement on it. I would say that there’s some sort of--if you wanted to talk about it in MMO terms, you’d say 'end-game activities', but some of the most intense non-competitive activities in the game do require co-operation."
Quote:
In the latest edition of Bungie’s Mailsack blog, the developer said on the matter, “As for playing solo, this question still comes to us a lot, and we’re happy to answer it again. The company you keep, the challenges you tackle, the war you wage will all be products of the choices you make.

“If you never want to have a cooperative or competitive experience in Destiny, and if you want to experience every cinematic in private, you’ll have the option. We believe you’ll be having way less fun, and we think you may find it really difficult to resist the pull of our cooperative vortex, but when we say we’re building activities for every mood, that includes players who don’t want to party up.”

I haven't followed this too much but I always figured it was setup like Borderlands. Have they said if you can multiplayer across platforms? Like PS4 with 360 or are we stuck in our little ecosystem? Could you even do PS4 with PS3? Most of my friends have XBONE's and I'd like to play with them.

You know, this isn't aimed directly at you dyne but one thing that I hear a LOT from gamers that pisses me off is "well I'm going to get console "A" because my friends have that one." This is THE number one reason why I despise modern day online "connected" gaming. It creates such a sheep mentality!

I understand the desire to play online with your friends, but no way in hell do I let that be the determining factor on a 500.00 investment! I say screw what you're friends have! Go with the console that has the best bang for the buck and the broadest library of games that appeal to you. YOU be the influencer and convince your friends to get the console YOU buy!

(I'm speaking in general, not at you directly dyne).

From what I've read (and if I'm not mistaken) I think it is up to the developer as to whether they support PS3, PS4 and PC players being online together. I think there is at least one game that has been announced with PS3 and PS4 users being able to play together and Portal 2 apparently allowed PS3 and PC users to game together. So, it seems possible but at least as far as the PC is concerned, looks like they would need to do something to balance differences between playing with a mouse and keyboard versus playing with a controller. Anyway, I haven't been following this really closely but I don't recall seeing Destiny mentioned as one of the ones that is supposed to allow cross-play between PS3 and PS4 and/or PC.

This isn't even coming out on PC though is it? Wiki says no.

Steelmaker, I agree with everything you said. I have no intentions in spending that kind of money for one game and chances are they'll have PS4's by then anyway. They actually all bought XBONE's because they all had 360's and "that's what everybody was on." I would hope if Bungie has a 4 game deal and it's not releasing on PC they open the matchmaking to cross console. There's no reason not to. All four systems have identical control schemes.

Speaking strictly of Destiny, I really do believe the PS4 version will be the superior version. I think it's already going to have excluisve content plus with the Xbone's performance issues I wouldn't be surprised if it runs at a higher resolution/better framerate.

Online only, not MP only. Subtle but important difference.

Forget where it got mentioned before but I'm pretty sure at least one dev that wanted to try this indicated MS said it will never happen. (Sony may be unwilling also, but the quote I recall was specifically that MS made it clear they would never allow a game to interact across the company platforms.)

It could probably technically be done (though even things like Planetside and DCUO won't/don't do PC and PS together) but it seems like it's more a rules issues for the console companies.

Umm... wow. Modest technical advantages vs. real social interaction with friends that will most likely out last several generations.

To me, you're the sheep, not the other way around. Chasing a little bit of tech "edge" at the expense of actual enjoyment.

Would it be nice if anyone could interact with anyone? Sure, but to me Dyne's argument for going with one side over the other isn't about being a sheep - and is one of the most compelling arguments.

People want to do things with other people that like (aka friends). Why do people go to particular bars/restaurants, watch particular shows, read particular books, and engage in particular hobbies/sports? For many (not all to be true, and not everyone all the time) the activity is a vehicle to quality time with friends/family - not the other way around.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but based on that one post if I were in your particular circle of friends I'd probably be saying "don't let the door hit you on the way out" and even if we were both on the same console, I'm not sure that you'd be someone I'd want to be investing my time in.

I love how you conveniently left out what I said about "choosing the console with the broadest library of games that appeal to you" or "you be the influencer and convince your friends to buy the console you choose." to make your argument sound better. I already told dyne that my post wasn't directed at him. It's just that his post reminded me of so many other's I've read.

Will you please relax. Of course I was messing with him. He was messing with me so I messed with him right back. No harm, no foul.
