Saw this one earlier in 3D in Dolby Atmos by far one of the loudest movies I've ever seen. It was a fun ride, fast paced, over the top. nice to see someone like George Miller still take on this franchise and deliver.

This was probably one of the most entertaining movies I have seen in a long time. It was an action masterpiece. The stunts, sets, props...etc. Everything was just a VISUAL FEAST. Definitely pre-ordering this and seeing it twice at the movie theater!

Watched the trilogy for the first time ever, yesterday. I was expecting to love them, but it didn't happened, I liked them, but I don't think they're ****ing great as I thought they would be. Maybe I was expecting too much, because of Fury Road (it looks SO good, can't wait to watch it).
Maybe when I re-watch them, I'll like it for good, just as happened to Psycho and Rosemary's Baby. |

Incidentally, any thoughts on why Amazon's pre-order price is so high (US$40.46 at time of writing!) for this, when Best Buy is offering it for a more reasonable US$24.99 (or US$34.99 for the 3-D version)?
I'm assuming Amazon's prices will come down at some point, but that's an oddly high starting point. |

I think it'll probably drop a little in price before release. Currently about $31 shipped for anyone wondering which isn't that bad really considering the 3D disc. Could probably sell the 3D disc for $10 too

I'm very selective when it comes to day one purchases, but this will definitely be one of them - I loved the movie from beginning to end. I'm still undecided whether I'll get the 3D or 2D version... it'll depend on the price difference. I didn't think 3D added that much to the film.

not really. WB owns it... WB has a new policy in place where $24.99 is the lowest they will price new release combo packs.. that's why American Sniper, The Hobbit, Jupiter Ascending, Focus etc are ALL $24.9x on release week. Mad Max : Fury Road will be no lower

Also, the film itself was even better the second time around. Most of the unclear plot points I had issues with the first time made sense this time. There are still some ambiguities I'd love to see fleshed out in an extended cut. Certain melodramatic moments weren't that bad this time either. Maybe it's because I read that the director originally wanted an old-fashioned orchestral score. I still got goosebumps after walking out, and different shots were thrilling this time that weren't the first time. 90/100 |

I haven't seen Thunderdome all the way through since its theatrical (outside of maybe seeing some brief moments of it on TV over the years), but I bought the Blu recently to complete my Mad Max set and decided to revisit it tonight. I didn't really like it much at all back in 1985, and it hasn't gotten any better in the 3 decades since; in fact, I think it's even worse now. Some of the stuff at Bartertown in the first half is sort of cool with the weird characters, I suppose, but everything else feels so mainstream and like studio-produced pablum. Just dullsville all the way. Worst part is that we also have none of that off-the-wall, strange other wordly music score by Brian May from the first two films which gave those films such a weird vibe, but instead Thunderdome has a completely uninspired generic Hollywood-type action score by Maurice Jarre that could fit over any bland interchangeable Hollywood action film from the 80's, and the happy whimsical music with the kids is just vomit inducing. It's like The Goonies just arrived! Even the chase scene at the end, if you make it that far, is uninspired, and the terrible music score doesn't help matters there, either. I love the first two films, but Thunderdome really does deserve its lousy reputation. Don't even get me started on Turner's song shoehorned into this thing to sell millions of records.

Thunderdome really grew on me... it's so quotable. "Listen to the law!!! *points up* And I really like Tina Turner in it. "Aint we a pair..."
The fact that we now have another awesome movie, makes me like Thunderdome even more now that it isn't the last we see of Max. Wish we could have had one more with Mel Gibson but that's alright. |
