The problem with that suggestion is that it would be a serious step backwards for Pixar, artistically speaking. We've already seen that kind of movie, indeed, some of us are probably way too familiar with that kind of movie by now. It would add nothing new, artistically speaking, and would seem like a hollow effort to milk the franchise for all it's worth.

The movie's premise is NOT that Andy should have been "all about Alisha/Izzy Hawthorne," that is simply absurd. The notion should be that we can all try to be as effective and independent as possible, but that there are limitations to that approach - and that at times, it takes a real team effort to get things done. That is a wonderful lesson for the young 'uns - it is now and it would have been in the 90s.

Anybody know if this is getting a Target Exclusive like the Disney/Pixar movies usually get? Haven’t seen a listing for it so far but I seem to remember Turning Red’s going up later than the other pre-orders. Fingers crossed for one, Disney UK has gotten so beyond cheap now that I like importing the Target editions because the packaging is so nice 🤩🙌

You might want to follow the Target exclusives thread:

Probably the fastest way to know about it as soon as the info is available

I’m wondering if Target even wants to do any exclusives going forward. Given the clearance prices it’s obvious they can’t be returned for credit.

It just may be smarter to bring in special package movies that aren’t exclusives that can be returned like the current JW Dominion Steelbook, Sony rerelease steels and LoA and Kwai steels.

Aren't Sony's steels in-stores only at Best Buy?

Not the Spider-Man No Way Home reissued steelbook and the other Sony reissues. Available to all retailers. LoA available to everyone

Going forward we'll see if Best Buy will continue to want Exclusive Steelbooks from Sony or from any studio.

This reissue of Spider-Man No Way Home Steelbook within the same year of the release of the BB Exclusive is really strange and out of the ordinary. Just a guess on my part but BB possibly under ordered the steelbooks because they wanted a clear sellout and didn't want to get stuck with inventory like WW84. Sony saw BB under ordered and probably made a decision that the movie was so big we could reprint and sell retail wide.

A lot of things are changing in the physical media world. Stores do not want to be stuck with excessive inventory especially titles they can't return. Target might be headed in the same direction. Look at the clearance on the Disney digibooks recently. That must have hurt and they couldn't return them for credit so had to blow them out. Tons of Frozen II apparently.

Some people are reporting their Best Buys no longer have movies.

Missed this in theaters but I feel like it had/has huge potential to be a beast in Dolby Atmos. Anybody got any details on the sound mix? On the other hand it is Disney which has not really been anything special in the home theater dept lately. :/

Lightyear was an all around selfish movie for Pixar to make. It took the character kids wanted to see and twisted his story into one that a small subset of adults wanted to see. As a result, kids are robbed of a true buzz lightyear movie they were looking forward to based on the character in Toy Story, in exchange for a small group of creators and adults being able to see their vision of Lightyear - which should have been a different movie altogether with a different character. Instead of a fun and comedic trip through the galaxy, we got a progressive cartoon ripoff of Interstellar. And this is a large reason why Lightyear bombed both theatrically and on Disney+.

Are we still arguing about this? It's getting really old now. People who enjoyed it will still enjoy regardless of who says or thinks what, likewise people who didn't like it will be the same. Personally I enjoyed it. Its not Pixars worst nor best in my eyes. But honestly the constant back and forth is draining especially when all people care about Is the physical release. Fine you might hate it or love it. But life goes on. There's plenty of movies I hate but I don't see the point of going on threads to moan about why everyone else is wrong who enjoys that movie. Same for movies I love. Some of us just want to talk about the physical release.

I get you, but the movie discussion thread was closed last I checked so this is the only place to discuss the movie. Considering Lightyear was the biggest box office flop of 2022 (most money lost), Pixar's biggest flop, and the fact it disappointed so many people it's going to make sense that people want to continue discussing the movie itself.

Pixar is really losing it IMHO. They've turned out two duds in a row now between Turning Red and this.

Well considering Soul, Luca and Turning red all went straight to Disney plus for bugger all. And there's a reason that thread is closed, because it's filled with Toxicity and extreme left vs extreme right b.s.

As I said some of us just want to discuss the physical releases and not how brilliant or poor it is to someone. You've all successful made your arguments.

Still extremely happy with this movie and consider it to be easily Pixar's best since the beginning of the pandemic.

I had no doubt. Still waiting on photos of a decorated room in your home that has every possible Lightyear accessory available.

Ranking Time! My Pixar post-pandemic ranking is thus:

Soul
Onward
Luca
Lightyear
Turning Red

I really liked the top 3 then there's a decent gap between Luca and Lightyear (which I still enjoyed for what it was) and a major gap between Lightyear and Turning Red (which I did not enjoy for what it was). I'm still hoping a second viewing of TR will change my opinion but I haven't brought myself around to getting the disc yet.
