Almost unloaded my 3-movie Blu-ray set recently, until the first film gets a stand-alone 4K UHD. Guess I'll hold onto it a little longer.

Yeah, I don’t know what the hold up on this is. WB has supposedly been sitting on a 4K remaster since 2020 (it screened in theaters, but most people including me missed it).

Either they’re waiting to release it with the sequels once those are remastered, or WB just doesn’t care about this at all. Which wouldn’t surprise me seeing how every release has been bare bones.

But if they really don’t care, then why haven’t they licensed it out? I know from my friend at Shout they were trying to get it for years and were continually shut down, I can’t imagine others had better luck.

Maybe I’m overreacting and WB is just slow. Somehow they’re only getting to Lethal Weapon this year and that’s been a big moneymaker for years.

Given Justin Beahm is working on extras as we speak, it's safe to say that the 4K remasters for the 3 films are done and Warner sublicensed them out to either Arrow or Shout!.

Speaking of; maybe that's why 1 and 2 are not available on Movies Anywhere right now because of that and Warner is in the process of giving them the upgrades.

Titles like this can be tricky when one party owns the film and another owns the characters/IP. Take, for example, the Batman 1966 TV series, which was held up for years and years because of this. WB would likely need to coordinate any release with Paramount, and the more people you have involved, the longer it takes.

FWIW: I'm not saying this is the reason why there's been no release yet - just saying that it could potentially be a factor.

I wouldn't automatically assume we're getting all three tbh. But I hope.

If WB is releasing these themselves they will most likely release the first one separate then the other 2 a year later.

This is the first I’m hearing of this, so I doubt it’s with Shout. Where was it stated he was working on these?

Edit: Never mind, I can see people spotted him in that shared image from Ernie Reyes Jr.

I would still be surprised if this was licensed to Arrow though, it’s a big IP, even if WB don’t own the IP and only those three films, they stand to make more by not licensing it. Especially since it sounds like they paid to restore the first film themselves.

Yeah, I just would have thought I’d heard something from my friend since I’ve bugged him about it a few times over the past decade lol. I can try and confirm, but naturally if they don’t want that info out, I’m not going to share it. I could at least confirm if they don’t have it, however, which would likely mean it’s with Arrow if not WB.

It's possible Warner's rights are expiring this time, since the digital listings for all 3 are gone off the usual places. Unless someone got the video rights before they all started to expire, I can see someone ether working with Paramount (who owns the IP) or Fortune Star if they indeed claimed US rights somehow.

Arrow hasn't had any recent FS titles in both regions, so it's safe to say ether 88 or Eureka have it for the UK.
