On BD? Make it optional. But in IMAX theatres it's certainly a different story. But that's a different discussion alltogether

By the way, wouldn't it be easier to rename this thread to Star Wars: Episode VII or something? So we don't have a 100 threads about it

If Abrams was able to make me a fan of Star Trek(his version only), I'm guessing he'll make me a fan of his Star Wars.

Why does everyone assume there will be constant lens flares just because Abrams is directing? I am pretty sure he will try to make the films look like the original trilogy since he is a uber geek for old school SW. Part of me wonders if some think only Lucas should direct the new trilogy...so they could call him the devil and worship Red Letter Media hackwork.

Name one besides Nolan or Spielberg?

Favreau sucks. Whedon's style is just plain wrong.

Brad Bird would have been a great choice...but he won't do it.

Not happy about this at all. I refuse to watch anymore of his movies until he tones down his stupid lens flare obsession. Aside from that, I don't think he's got a ton of talent.

Agree, JJ has never demonstrated a visual style as a director that comes close to what we see in any of the Star Wars movies. I've never even finished watching any of his movies so this is sad news.

JJ Abrams has hit a lot of home runs in my book, so I'm encouraged by this news!

JJ makes safe generic blockbusters. The average person will be amused.

These movies have already been announced to be shot in 3D so unless he puts the lens flares in post we won't be seeing all those nasty anamorphic lens distortions.

I'm disappointed by this news and if JJ goes anywhere near any Star Wars film then I'm going to hold the most expensive bonfire of any Star Wars collection ever.

JJ has such an antagonistic approach toward movie production that just because his films are successful for movie studios, doesn't necessarily mean his movies are any good. For those who love JJ's style, I'm not begrudging you. But this is a director who has such an arcane notion about what it means to release images, scenes, teaser trailers or information regarding the production.

I seem to recall his dumbest idea ever, to release a teaser scene through Conan, was it, and it was a two-second scene. This was also a man who refused to release any details about the production and who closed off the set to Star Trek because someone posted images from the production of "Star Trek: Into Darkness". JJ makes the ultra secret FISA Warrants look like a Fox News media production.

Plus, the man doesn't know how to create a good story and he relies too much on special effects and lens flares to sell the movie instead of the actual story. I just don';t think that JJ's "flashy style" is right for Star Wars and I think it's going to create more problems for Disney in the long run.

Star Wars fans, longtime fans, hardcore fans, and new generations of fans are very, very hyper-critical of any new Star Wars production and I doubt that Star Wars fans will appreciate JJ tackling the Star Wars films.
